Saturday Night Programs

I haven't listened to much of anything on Saturday nights in a while. I may have to start. I may check out Studio 94 on 94.7 WMAS or Studio 108 on WEBE 108.
Meanwhile the plug was pulled on my Saturday Night Show before it even launched.
My show was supposed to launch on Saturday May 12 at 10PM on 990 WXCT. It was gonna be a mixture of talk, disco, reggaeton, and oldies. It was gonna be called "The Satuday Night Freak-Out". As you all know Charlie Profit's LMA was ended and DMG LMA'd the station to Spanish Language Jesus Casters and that's what happened to my show.

I'm not sure if you would consider this a mix show, but WEBE 108,s studio 108 has been a fixture on saturday nights for a while. Yes, they tend to play much of the same music week after week, but overall its a nice backdrop for whatever you're doing. As much as alot of music from that era gets a bad rap, admit it some of those songs are guilty pleasures for many of us. maybe its the novelty of hearing Major Harris only once a week as opposed to every day that makes the show listenable. They've gone through a number of hosts over the years, but overall I think the announcers are secondary to the music. As for oldies, I think Mark Edwards still hosts his sock hop on WLNG on Saturdays.

The poster was listening to WEBE 108's Saturday Night Dance Party with Jose The Party DJ. Yeah, that's a fun show to listen to, since they tend to play Barry White and the now infamous "Nights On Broadway" from the Bee Gees (makes me think of the Barry Gibb Talk Show skits from SNL!).

the best Saturday night Mix show would have to be KDUB and the BIGMan on HOT 93.7 those guys actually spin stuff that is not just from there playlist and they make an honest attempt at getting the listeners involved outside of trying to give us tickets to some dumb rap concert

the best....as long as you remember the ole WABC is Saturday nights after 6p with 770 WABC as they relive the 60's and 70's. Their only negative is that it is hosted by a current talk show host, Mark imone as opposed to having gotten one of the old announcers from WABC, such as Johnny Donovan (who is now their image announcer)
Crud. Another Satuday Night Goes by and I forgot to check out STUDIO 108 and STUDIO 94. I was bored last night too. I don't always want to listen to my favortie stations HOT, POWER, and DRC-FM. Sometimes I wanna hear something different. I'm gonna have to put a post-it note on my computer.

I never went to The Stadium despite living in Bristol all my life until 2003. The DJ's on both JAMZ 910 and BLAZE 990 both used to talk about how small it was. In fact I remember a DJ on BLAZE 990 saying the dance floor at the stadium was about the size of the coffee table in the lobby of their station.
The Stadium was ripped down along with the pawn shop and abandoned restaurant next door. A Walgreens has been under construction for more than a year.
Apparently KISS didn't have a board op at the station when they broadcast from The Stadium. When they evecuated the club because of a fire at a near by abandoned factory the station went off the air until they got back to Hartford.

Alan, no ill will here, but the arguement could be made that he would have at least had a show on a commercial station; that's more than most armchair quarterbacks can say here. I know you aren't trying to be insensitive, or rude in your response but apparently you are bothered enough to reply to his post, so there is some level of "caring" of your part. Try to be more supportive and less destructive with your replies.
Marc has a reason to be proud of what he was trying to do with getting a Saturday Night show on. He wasn't just dreaming (and talking, like so many do here)...he was doing (or trying to get into a position to do). And everyone has to start somewhere; so what if it was only three friends. He could practice and get better.
I really do wish people would lighten up and realize life is to short to be ridiculing others for pursuing their dreams. Concentrate on making your own dreams reality, and stop knocking others down for theirs...I started out at a community station with maybe 3 listeners too. With a little persistance, and a good attitude, you can actually make something of yourself.
Again, no ill will Alan. I wish you the best and I hope you'll consider what I've said.

As far as Marc's sat nite show goes- who could argue against a local listener driven show?? Least it's live and local and not off the bird. And Charlie has to be lauded for giving a newcomer some airtime and use of some creativity. All of this stuff is gone from radio broadcasting today. Marc, maybe you will get another shot at it. This is how I got my start in radio- mgt gave me a sat/ sun nite slot and let me go at it; you can only get better as you get more experienced!!
