Saturday Night Street Party on 92.5

I was out at Sunset Lake this last week, and blind camp had use of a full-size van to get around camp. On Wednesday, my councilor managed to get the radio in the thing working and put it on 92.5, so we had radio periodically. We flipped it on Saturday night coming back from the evening program, and I expected they would be in a mix show, but they seemed to be in regular programming. Does anyone know what happened or if the mix show now starts later? I think this was around 10:30.

You know, I never really understood the point of mix shows on Saturday nights. A lot of stations tend to run this type of programming, but I don’t see much of a point in doing so. Why not just run regular programming and eliminate any songs that aren’t “up tempo”?

Sometimes they get a local sponsor to at least cover the expenses. Depending on the format, many times you can find some local club DJ willing to record a long mix in exchange for just getting their name on the radio. It's an ego thing stations can take advantage of.

Thst makes sense. If I recall, the program director over at 92.5 ran the Saturday mix show for a while, but I’m not sure how long that lasted. It seems like a bit of an outdated concept because either a listener will love the show or hate the show. There isn’t much wiggle room in between. It surprises me more on stations that run this programming during the peak 5pm drive hour. CKKS in Vancouver did this at one time and it always sounded like a good way to drop your cume. Perhaps not so surprisingly, this station recently flipped formats.

I could see that argument on just about any feature that deviates from the normal programming. If Maynard was indeed running the street party, that probably means it hasn't been a thing on that station since 2014, as I think that's when he left. Any idea where he's at these days? Last I heard he was at 95.7, but have no idea if he's still there or who the PD of that station is now.
