SATX PPM's - June 2011

There's a new radio leader in the Alamo area - predictably enough, it's the classic hits station, KONO (the former "one-and-oldies" station).

Good news for Clear Channel in their hometown market: Country KAJA gains a full point to finish third.

Bad news for Clear Channel in their hometown market: As I have warned predicted here, "92.5 The Patriot" did not even register in this period.

Yeah, maybe we can get something new on 92.5 soon. I think it'll flip.

And they got the format wrong, it's talk, not country.

The problem with 92.5 is its very weak signal in San Antonio, especially north/east of downtown. Nothing more, nothing less. You will NEVER get a cash cow there.

COX radio needs to sell KTKX 106.7 to Clear Channel like they are selling KHPT 106.9 to Univision. Clear Channel needs to sell 92.5 to Univision, BMP, Salem, or somebody else, and WOAI should be on FM on 106.7 the only problem I see with that is getting the FCC to allow the use of the W calls on FM, otherwise they would have 2 different call letters for legal ID. If Salem bought 92.5 they could have there KSLR back on the FM dial something that hasn't happen since the early 80s.

Salem being a Religious programmer would not care as much about making the PPM's.

Since San Antonio doesn't have a NFL team or major football team, Sports on FM I don't see cutting it on FM when WOAI has News Talk and Sports. I mean they can air the Spurs on 106.7 as long as blackouts aren't in effect. Plus if WOAI flanks on FM all they would have to do is try KTKR on FM, I think that would be a good 4+ year run for Clear Channel

KRPT makes money just by existing in it's current format. So does KTKR. Improved ratings for KTKR won't really make a difference in revenue. They reach their target and sell for it.

I don't see Cox ever selling anything in San Antonio unless it's part of a trade in another market.

WOAI on FM would be cool if they make it Stereo. A surround sound Spurs game would get me to listen.

WOAI calls aren't a problem on FM since they already own the calls on AM. That's how they reassigned the calls to WOAI TV a few years back. IIRC WOAI-FM was actually on 97.3 for a while between KEEZ and KAJA I think.

Agree completely.

I suspect the posters in this forum who are so eager to flip 92.5 have never actually spent more than a quarter-hour listening to it while driving around the city! KRPT is a rimshot that does not put a good signal anywhere on the north side or downtown. It's actually more useful to CC as a flanker for WOAI, keeping the second tier of syndicated talkers out of the hands of the competition, than it would be with a music format that they had to sell. Plus those syndicated shows seem to include some bartered spots (Goldline, et. al.), which is like free money coming in to a station like this.

Cox's selling of KHPT is not part of a trade in another market. It is a flanker that hasn't made money nor ratings despite 2 formats on there one consisting of a limited 300 song all 80s playlist known as the Point.

Oh I forgot about that, WOAI FM 97.3 was Beautiful Music format back then before Top 40 KEEZ in the late 70s.

Where did you hear that Cox is selling KHPT to Univision? I'm almost 100% sure that's not true. Clear Channel was forced to sell KHMX and KLOL in Houston because one of CC's large investors (Thomas H Lee Partners, specifically) also owns a considerable enough chunk of Univision to cause both companies' combined assets to count towards the ownership cap.

Unless Thomas H Lee sold a large portion of their Univision or Clear Channel stock (they haven't) or the FCC/FTC changes its ownership cap (they haven't), Univision isn't acquiring any new Houston stations anytime soon.

Mics all around the court during an NBA game would be a nightmare for the board op sitting on the "dump" button. Even though the current administration's FCC doesn't throw big fines at stations for letting F-bombs onto their airwaves, stations still use those infernal delays during live sports as if they did.

Seriously, you need to stop saying this. Cox isn't selling 106.9 to ANYONE. They're not flipping it to regional mexican. There's already four stations playing regional mexican. Those idiots flipped 106.9 to pull in numbers north of houston, which is stupid because KGLK comes in fine up north.

Anyways...congrats to KONO! I stream the station regularly since the format does not exist in Houston (what are you waiting for, Cox?).

Look out for Univision to flip 97.7 to classic hits to compete with KONO now.

You're kidding right? KTFM and Mix did well in the female demographics. There's no way Univision will flip 97.7 due to the stiff competition The Beat is current involved in.
