Savage beats Levin in NYC

According to M. Savage, in the latest book he has beaten Levin in the key 25-54 demo.

Considering the station he's on (WOR) that is an accomplishment.

if that is true....its quite remarkable....don't think Mark Masters will plaster that fact all over Talkers, All Access, and R&R....Phil is it true?

I can't wait to hear what our friend Phil has to say about this.

After all, wasn't he telling us here that stations were falling all over each other to carry the show and like Levin's show was the biggest show in NYC evening talk?

I like Levin and Savage, but it's good that WGN can be competitive with the right-wing 77AM spin machine.

12 plus WGN beats WLS. 25-54 both stations are in need of help.

The fact is, Savage is more engaging and can bring somethign more to the table against those with opposing views than "You're a Liberal -- You're stupid!"

Th enew WOR afternoon lineup is much better than it was at this tiem last year: Steve Malzberg is a pleasant and sharp afternoon drive host and Dennis Miller before him is mroe lively than the "Radio Factor" was.

WOR may no longer be "World's Oldest Radio" after 2pm.

Especially when he's in a good mood from knowing he's #1 in the Big Apple. The guy is severely manic depressive. When he's on the downswing, just turn the sho off. When he's on the upswing, he's pretty entertaining.

You know if I brag when we beat Savage I have to take my lumps when he beats me. Savage is NOT #1 in NYC in total listeners on the AM band. That honor goes to Mark Levin who beat Savage 12+ for the 15th time out of the last 17 books. However to the point of this post, Savage did beat Mark in 25-54... 2.5 to 2.2. Mark beat Savage in Men 18+....and several other important demos.

We have a nice dogfight on our hands. It makes radio fun.

Re: Savage beats Levin in NYC - Deli Debate in Brooklyn?

They need to have it out. I suggest they meat at a Brooklyn Deli and have a food fight. Cornbeef vs. Pastrami. Mayo vs. Mustard Rye v. whole wheat.

While Savage is an obvious nut, what I dislike about Levin is his entire tone of the show...starting with the show opening...something like "from deep inside a fortified underground bunker, here's your leader" or something like that. Then all the quotes about how "out of control judges" are ruining the country and out-of-context quotes from the founders all appeal to the Timothy McVeigh and Eric Rudolph types..the ones that shoot judges, blow up abortion clinics and federal buildings ...feed off that type of presentation. At one time that sort of programming was heard only on white supremacist shortwave stations. Now ABC Radio promotes it.

Much as I prefer Savage, it would be unfair to paint Levin with the same nose as a White Supremist shortwave host... It's more a matter of taste to most. What Levin benefits from is the backing from Hannity and being on the air in NYC after him. He is an excellent segue and does not lose Hannity's listeners who keep their dials on WABC.

Levin and his style have done quite well in keeping the program flow together. Why break up the 1927 Yankees?

You can tell between the two extremes? I can't.
