Savage Claims "Censorship" At WABC

Voting records is the last way you decide how to program a talk station. There's a finite number of people who are willing to listen to spoken word radio in the first place, and just because a 35 year old woman who listens to music all day at work voted for Hillary, doesn't mean she'd swigtch to liberal talk.

Or that she voted for her because of ideology. And that, I think, is the shortcoming for talk radio based solely around ideology. Not everyone is ideological. There needs to be something else, because the policy wonks will only get you a 1 share.

It really is going on quite a long time now that anything other than conservative or sports talk has been tried in a major day part on a strong signal. It doesn't have to be liberal to not be conservative.

Dr. Drew does his advice show middays on KABC in LA. Not exactly a strong signal, but it's a major day part.

How about Public Radio News/talk stations like WNYC they are on the Top 10 spots in New York though and they have talks shows that are not always politics though.

NPR insists it is not a Liberal network, despite the perception among many that it is. At least one Liberal radio network with a presence in NY some time ago, whose name I don’t even recall, failed. While Liberal TV networks CNN and MSNBC are experiencing bumps in their ratings, it’s due to their 24/7 coverage of Trump.

Liberal talk radio is proven to be unsuccessful, for whatever reasons.

That's the thing. I'm not saying WABC should program liberals for the sake of programming liberal. My experience is the conservative talk radio audience will call a conservative host that doesn't agree with their version of conservatism a "liberal." They did it to Meghan McCain, Charlie Sykes when he came out contradicting Trump, etc.

Why not find the host who best entertains and does good radio - and they don't have to be either liberal or conservative. Moderates and independents actually exist outside of the internet and AM talk. Gary Burbank was brilliant and as I recall, didn't even discuss politics. If he did it was satire, not argument.

Everything non-political ends up becoming an infomercial.

Well, there are the computer talk shows (Leo La Porte, in particular) that are pretty decent. On the other hand, any talk show about health, or investments/retirement, etc. seems to be selling something....vitamins, or advisory services, or...
