Savage losing 5 million listeners with Cumulus

Talkers magazine began updating on a monthly basis the audience numbers for the top national radio shows. Savage was number 3 on their list for many years hovering around 9 million+.

Well, that was before Savage was freed from slavery at TRN... Now Savage is with mega Cumulus, and his audience ? They left him!

His cume went down a nice few digits, from 9 million to 3.25 million.

Has Savage done anything right in his radio career?

Well, he does have less affiliates at the moment, so that's expected. Also, he's airing later in the evening, when less people are using radio.

The question is, is he getting paid more with Cumulus? If so, then he won.

In addition to the point that he's on fewer affiliates, he's also on different affiliates in many markets.

HOWEVER!

The glaring omission here is that the article you're citing states that his listenership is "3.25+ million." That means he has at least 3.25 million listeners, likely more. As the next step is 7.25 million, you can state that Savage has between 3.25 and 7.25 million. You have no idea which end of that scale he's actually on.

What is the margin of error?

If the margin of error is that huge, i.e. his audience can be anywhere between 3.25 and 7.0 million, then that poll
is utterly meaningless...

And the methodology? It's TALKERS analysis of a sampling of data from a bunch of sources including rated and unrated markets. It's the March 2013 list based on weekly ratings, three weeks of which have yet to occur! And Joy Browne tied at #12 with a show that's new to a 5th rate network? I wouldn't pay too much attention to Savage's standing in the talkosphere for another six months at least.
