Savage to give up political talk?

Listened to Michael Savage a little last night. He was saying he was so disgusted with politicians (especially after the latest Supreme Court nominee failed to be a known conservative)that he was ready to re-invent himself, and maybe bring on a co-host. While I doubt he will actually do that..any thoughts?

Since his current radio persona is 100% schtick anyway, why shouldn't he just do a complete 180 and go progressive? New co-host: Kathy Lanpher. :)

Nah, he'll probably end up doing more quack-tacular health stuff and less politics, and still add nothing of value to radio.

Savage has been "threatening" a switch away from politics since the Schiavo case. I'd overlook it as just another complaint...most of his show seemed to be complaining, when I would listen.

"Quack-tacular"? That's good...I like that one.

Tentative Plan

His current plan is to do a nation-wide search for a co-host, with five regularly-appearing characters on the show. To me, it sounds an awful lot like the format of his nemesis, Howard Stern.

As a long-time listener, I doubt he'll do it. Or if he does, it probably won't last. I don't see the value in it. You don't tune in to the Savage Nation to hear Good Morning America (at least not intenionally, LOL!).

I heard that and I think savage is smart enough to realize that success is not static. He wants to be an innovator and wants a little variety, not just wall to wall griping. He probably also wants to spend more time on his boat, being surrounded by sea lions ;=)

Judging from the caller response, this new format won't really fly. For some reason his listeners want Savage and only Savage.<P ID="signature">______________

As opposed to the non-quacktacular (or is that Merck-tacular?) form of medicine attributed to over 100,000 deaths in America every year? I'll take quacktacular any day.

Well Mr. Bell, if your username is any indication, you're a brokered talk show host on Savage's very own network, so you wouldn't be able to criticize him now, hmmm?

Re: Tentative Plan

I would think there would be allot of production costs unless he hired Phil Hendrie to do the voices of the 5 characters.....Savage (aka Wiener) went from a long haired hippie who hung out with Timothy Leary and Alan Ginsberg and named his son Russel Redcloud Weiner... (after communist Bertrand Russel and an Indian Chief) ---hyped alternative medicine. He then became a conservative....I'm sure he can change again...

I see him farming the show out like Art Bell did and still bringing alot of the money to himself while having others do the work...if his son sells his Rockstar energy beverage business (which Savage probably has a stake in) to a beverage giant (e.g. Pepsi, Cargill etc) he could become even wealthier...

KJCB,
My comment was specific to the iatrogenic ignorance evidenced by the quack-tacular comment regarding Michael's botanical background. I realize it may have been an attempt at easy humor, but I find it hard to laugh at the annual death rate of a highly regulated profession. Perhaps that's for another board, however. KJCB, how my user name indicates a brokered show I don't know. Do I detect a hint of radio snobbery in your comment, or am I reading too deeply? I did a brokered show from 1999 to 2002. I have been barter ever since. Regarding a Savage "criticize" -- do you want to debate his politics and beliefs, or the qualities of his radio show? The only thing I can determine from your user name is that you may be active on CB radio somewhere, unless you would care to elaborate. I could give a flip whether someone is brokered or bartered, it's just a different form of competition -- with rare exception, mostly easy money over quality radio.

Health comments are what's for another board.

No snobbery; I actively sell locally produced brokered shows on several stations in neighboring markets. It's bad radio, of course, but I work with mediocre stations, so it all comes out in the wash. Those familiar with Robert Scott Bell, TRN talk show host, could read into your name.

I am a big fan of Savage; his style is what we need more of in radio. I am not active in CB radio... my username is a long story and reflects call letters of a station in Louisiana.

AM radio brokered alternative health talk shows...

Even if every claim made by an alternative health expert or vitamin pitchman doing a brokered show on AM radio is true... they still deserve a place in the docket during the Radio War Crimes Trials, for destroying the medium everywhere on the weekends, and seven days a week in some places like Florida...

Yes... thank the folks who fervously filed app after app seeking licenses, creating many overradioed markets where the best format choice isn't oversatured news, CHR, sports, etc... it's brokered.

Sorry...I don't get the joke.
