Savage to leave show (lawsuit v. TRN)---WRKO plans?

Michael Savage wins his lawsuit vs TRN...can leave them and go to new "network". He may be off air awhile--what does RKO do?

http://www.radioink.com/goout.asp?u...9/find-out-why-michael-savage-is-off-the-air/

>>Michael Savage will be off the air for "some time" according to his website. He's posted a message that says, "after a grueling legal battle that cost him and his family dearly, Michael Savage can announce he won." Savage filed a lawsuit against TRN in 2010 over his contract and says he is "now free to work with whomever he wishes in the radio industry from this day forward." We've left a message with Savage's attorney to try to get more detail. We've also reached out to TRN for a comment but have not heard back yet. More details as we get them.

Can someone clarify what exactly Jeff Kuhner's accent is? His bio says he's from Canada, but I've never heard that accent from any Canadians I know.

It's like a cross between Long Island NY, the McKenzie brothers and a Martian.

I hear Jeff Katz is free these days... ::)

As is Jay Severin (though he does have that streamcast on Beck’s
network). ::)

RKO may not want to go local, spend the money--but Katz, Joe Battenfeld, etc could be possible. Someone said Kuhner is Savage's #1 fill in..for now at least TRN could put him on or maybe offer the slot to him and Kuhner could poss. still do the RKO 11a hour...he had gotten laid off from his DC station when they went sports and hoped to get a national slot sometime. I don't know how long it will be till another syndicator (Cumuilus? Premiere? Dial Global?) signs Savage, and will RKO pick him up when that happens?

If RKO prefers to go syndie a bunch of shows are available including (and obviously many would be delayed) Ingraham (again), Hannity, Beck, Mark Levin, Roger Hedgecock, Dennis Miller or the varioous prog. talkers if they plan to do that. I remember when RKO ran Gene Burns' syndie show at night.
When Burns left in a dispute, the Burns show (via WOR) was hosted for awhile by Severin then later it went to Gil Gross and RKO stuck with it for awhile

What WRKO should do, is have (LIVE SHOWS) not delays. For a Talk Station in a Major Market, if they want to put on shows (Local or Syndicated) it should be (LIVE) not delayed or taped.
Mark Levine show is supposed to be 6pm-9pm (LIVE)

What they should do, if they (have to keep) Howie on till 7pm. Fine, in that case, there is a LIVE syndicated talk show "Free Talk Live" (Genesis Communications) that's on weeknights 7pm-10pm. That's what they should do. Because I know a few people (not my friends!!!!) they are (real) listenners, (General listener) The general listenner will not know that Mark Levine is taped. What if the listenner want to call in at 9pm. (The show is over at 9pm!!!!) But the average listenner does not know of this.
That is what these Program Management should look into. Rather just fill the slot and not know about the program
possibilities for 10pm-1a (Jim Bohannon, or Alan Colmes) both of whom are (LIVE) at those times

WRKO should've also put on "America Tonight with Kate Delaney" (Genesis Communications) They should've put on her show. Her show is great. They have a wide variety of topics, and her show is entertaining (like how when they had "Red Eye Radio") but much better. She's on (Sunday [Early Monday-Thursday-Early Friday] Midnight-4a) at 4am, (Genesis Communications lists "Talk Radio Countdown") "Talk Radio Countdown comes on WRKO Sunday mornings. Anyways, that's what WRKO should've done, and have "Coast To Coast" on early Saturday
There's a lot they can do with that station that can make them better

Don't forget Entercom = Cheapercom. They don't want to spend money unless they can make money.
The amount of listeners goes down at 7 pm, when most people have gotten home and turn on the TV etc. But for those who do listen, they seem to like Savage who (and this is in dispute--Beck says he's #3) is arguably the third most popular talk host in the nation after Rush and Sean.

They SHOULD do live, yes. But will they spend the money?
Levin is 6-9 pm yes. When WXKS (AM) had them he got delayed till 9 or 10 pm

Free Talk Live--will they attract listeners? Libertarians I think, and Ian_FTL is a regular on these
boards. If anything RKO is hinting they want Savage back. They say on their Facebook that he's
on hiatus, Levin for now... (I would think TRN would put Kuhner on, allegedly their #1 fill in for
Savage, but RKO--Wolfe and Cooksey--seem to want to run Levin for now then see when
Savage will get signed.

Mark of BRW said prog talk not likely (and I agree). Even if their David Field leans left he knows
conservative talk makes them money. Hence why Savage has been on so long. Though admittedly nights post 7 pm have fewer listeners anyway. Yes they could go local, go after WBZ. Katz?
Joe Battenfeld?

Anyway despite your suggestions they seem to like Savage and are willing to wait, I'd think,
for the likes of Premiere or Cumulus to sign him, then pick him up. The WRKO facebook again
implies they'd like to consider him "on hiatus".

I wouldn’t give that too much weight, as “on hiatus” is frequently used to appease the newly disenfranchised. ;)
Also, don’t forget, the Presidential Erec..——er——Election is only about a month away, so they may very well go local (temporarily) in the evening.

True and don't be surprised if a few times per week they put Battenfeld on (they did in that slot on Fri nights) to do local/national politics in what was the Savage slot. (Levin snidely referred to the show as "Weiner Nation", referring to Savage's real surname)

Lauro, a VERY small percentage of people who listen to talk radio will ever call in. This is well documented, researched fact. Therefore, the station should air the best possible content that they can make a profit on, whether that be live or tape delayed. Selecting a show that nobody has ever heard of just because it is live over a tape delayed name brand that has a following makes no business sense.

And this is different from any other business that wants to remain in business...how?

It's so gratifying to see that Entercom Derangement Syndrome is alive and well.
