Savage wins suit against TRN

Savage has been freed from his contract with TRN. Says he will be off the air for the foreseeable future until he strikes a new deal. No comment from TRN. What will this mean for his affiliates come Showtime tomorrow?

This explains the strange way his "show" came on tonight....in the middle of the Israel PM's speech to the UN earlier today.

I heard that coming home from work, then later saw the story about the arbitration online, went online to listen to him, and apparently Jeff Kuhner was on. Wonder if he'll get the gig temporarily since he's Savage's number one pinch-hitter....

Where would Savage go now? Dial Global? Compass? Premiere won't want him....

Hooray! Best news I've seen in a long time! 8)

Stations wondering what to do are invited to take Free Talk Live, no agreement necessary up front. If you want to keep us later when the dust settles, you can sign our easy one-page agreement then. No more cramdowns or outside-the-show-inventory required.

Mercury news story same as the AP Story. His attorney got money that is for sure and he keeps his archived shows. Wonder if the other people have the same kind of deal with TRN? I wonder if TRN will move Laura Inghram? Savage could retire, he has a piece of Rockstar energy beverage I bet. Maybe he will go to TV again.

The collective IQ of talk radio went up 20 points when he quit. I prefer my cartoons to be animated, Savage is a sad joke.

I wonder who will pick him up? It seems this law suit was all about Savage wanting to syndicate his show on his own. Maybe He'll go the Glenn Beck route and start his own Internet channel.

Who would be crazy enough to pick him up again?

He's difficult to sell (TRN had to cram down spots on stations that they had to run OUTSIDE Savage's show.) and he's not getting any younger.

If he could get a syndicate to take him right when he left TRN, it could have worked, but by the time his noncompete is up (likely at least a year) his affiliates will be long gone and associated with other shows.

I wonder if Savage could do a Glen Beck...Beck seems to draw a different crowd that Savage. Sooothing verses abrasive.. would people pay $10 a month to get yelled at?

I only heard Jeff Kuhner as Savage's fill-in, and was never impressed. At least on Savage's show, he played the roll of Michael's #1 cheerleader, going on and on, at length, about how great Michael Savage is. Yawn. Savages's nitch is his abrasive style. He's better at it then others. I don't think his audience believes he's yelling at them, he's a conduit for their frustrations. Having him off-air as the election approaches is not so good for his affilates.

Right now, as much as I hate Savage, I see a bunch of real ticked off affiliates. KKAD/Portland is now running a repeat of Hugh Hewitt in MS' timeslot. WOR/NY has not made any announcement or changes on their website. Savage's SF/Sacramento Affiliate KSTE has not changed their website. So there are 400 stations who have been shorted by this man.

Truly, if he does fina another syndicator, I would be interested in who would pick him up again, high ratings or no....

Savage will probably retire if he has to be off for more than a year as I read in some other threads. Phil Hendrie also has problems with TRN as well so Savage may have wanted out for all the riight reasons.

The only guy who would probably fit in with the Savage crowd and not skip a beat is Alex Jones but he would have to give the conspiracy talk a big haircut.

Wasn't Savage trying to jump to Westwood One when this all started?

And would the current Dial Global have any interest in him whatsoever?

Any news about TRN's "October Surprise" replacement?

Yes...Jerry Doyle will be taking the 12p-3p ET, 3p-6p PT beginning today, according to a release from TRN. But no word from TRN on who will take Doyle's old time slot.
