Savage's mellowing influence ...

... may be concerns about his health. He mentioned that after going on an angry tirade, he had a physical reaction to it. He got some sort of discomforting feeling that hung with him. My guess is since he's so passionate about certain things, his blood pressure might have gone up while talking (and sometimes yelling) about the weakness of the American male in todays society, the terrible problem of illegal immigration, and more. He mentioned how he didn't want to drop dead (in the studio). When he had his producers play back the segment, it wasn't any more intense then other similar episodes on his show. It shall be interesting to hear how he proceeds in the future.

Here is a little "parlor game" everyone can play. Assume for a moment that you are a broadcast personality playing a role similar to Savage, Rush, Hannity, or even some of the folks on cable TV and you could see yourself either as a spokesman for the conservative side or a spokesman for the progressive side.

So you come to the realization that when you fully engage yourself into your broadcasts and the emotional state starts affecting your health, physical and/or mental, what do you do?

Do you see yourself as a potential historic hero who should "die with your boots on" in support of the civilization that you love?

Do you "hang it up" and retreat to the family compound to enjoy and be enjoyed by your family?

You back off and let others play the leader/hero role while you settle into the trenches as "one more loyal soldier" in the army?

Do you go to your doctor and say: Make me as bullet-proof as you can. Bring on the pills.

Do you flee to the monastery or seminary and declare: I will be God's warrior and God can choose to protect or not protect me.

You can alter some negatives in your life and continue. In relation to on-air presentation, I don't put Rush and Hannity in the same category as I would Savage and Levin or on the left hand side Mike Malloy. They don't do the "angry-and I'm not going to take it anymore"-shtick with the occasional kind of venom done by Michael, Mark and Mike. If he changes his presentation for his own health, will he continue to have healthy ratings?

IMHO Savage is my favourite 'conservative' talker on the American airwaves. He's not as annoying as the others (except his prerecorded comments, when he has 'guests'), his stories can be great and are down right funny at times. Off the wall, passionate, humorous, he's the most entertaining 'talker' out there. I hope he's able to continue for a while yet...

Well, he didn't sound like he took his own suggestion today. He got his "blood boiling" again about the problem of leftists wanting to coddle the illegal aliens while instead investigating Americans who see this as a real danger, particularly with the drug cartels spreading out into the U.S., and simply want to protect themselves, their families and their communities.
At the peak of his take, consistent with his support for Border/Culture/Language, he made the hard-hitting and clever statement: "In America, I don't want to press 1 for English. I want to press 1 for deportation!"

Now, maybe his version of calming down will be to do less of the segments where he "goes off" so-to-speak. We shall see.

This is probably just a made-up rumor, but I've heard that Mr. Weiner (a.k.a. "Savage") has several secluded home studios set up with ISDN lines, and on any given day, the producers of the show never know which studio he will be at. So, at show time they just have to dial up each one until they find the one he's using.

Wouldn't surprise me. His show doesn't strike me as one of a guy who has a strong work ethic.

As for dialing up to find out where to turn without having advance information, years ago there was a disc jockey who knew exactly what everyone else had in their tray coming up next shift, and who had what in their tray last shift. It was golden oldies school 301. The point: That it was not only possible or probable, but a definite that, though few and far between, there would always be someone out there who used advance information to play games, shut down, back stab, harass, run a person into the ground or whatever other malicious mischief they could devise.

As for work ethic it seems to me that it takes a pretty disciplined work ethic to accomplish the degrees (not honorary, but real) degrees Michael Savage holds. He has been on the air how many years now?

For my part, though the Internet is good for many things, it is not good for keeping your competition from getting the upper hand.

Oh, there's no disputing the guy's accomplishments or brains. But the horribly chopped up canned interviews, leaving early many days, and taking lots of days off doesn't exactly make him a workaholic.

Of course, the important thing is that he gets an audience doing what he does. So good for him. I'd probably leave work early and take one day a week off if I could, as well.
