Savannah DTV conversion

While watching "24" tonight, a scroll confirmed that WTGS will ditch their analog signal on 2-17. I presume sister station WJCL will follow suit on the same date. No word on if 3 or 11 will go all digital on 2-17 or wait until June. I predict 11 will wait until June, as the old folks will still want to watch Sonny & Jody, and probably have no clue about the upcoming change, despite all the warnings....

I've also noticed that WTGS is now branding itself "Hardeeville, Hilton Head", making no reference to Savannah. WSAV brands itself "Savannah, Hilton Head" on their website, but not on air.

Bill Cathcart's recent rant about the extension leads me to think otherwise, but WTOC has announced no definite decision that I have seen or heard. In fact, this is what WTOC says on its website regarding the transition: "We will continue to broadcast our analog signal until further notice."

If it were my decision, I would switch as previously scheduled. Perhaps WTOC is waiting for instructions from Corporate, or simply waiting to see how audience opinion is leaning before a decision is taken.

GPB will swich over to digital on February 17, as originally scheduled. They have a countdown clock on their website:

Ok, it appears everything is now in place for the switch.

22, 28, 34 & 9 will go all digital on 2-17. 3 & 11 will wait until June.

Oh, has WSAV changed their plans then? They had said that they would switch on 2/17 as originally scheduled, citing economic considerations as having much to do with the decision. Everything on their web site seems to augur for the February date.

Interesting...

*There is no discernable DTV antenna anywhere on WJCL's tower,
*There used to be a fairly large broadband antenna about 1/3 of the way up WTGS' tower...now it's gone. I can only discern one DTV antenna there....will 22, 28 & 34 share that?
*The antenna atop WSAV appears to be DTV...where's their analog signal coming from?

Yep, have to stay side by side with 11 I suppose.

There is a digital antenna on the WJCL tower mounted right behind the WZAT antenna, but there currently is not a HD antenna. The antenna for WTGS was changed out last year and is a dual antenna for both analog and HD, as could be the case for WSAV, but I am not sure.

There's a difference between a DTV & HDTV antenna!?! Who'da thunk it?

Any reports on increased DTV signal strength on 22, 28, 34, 9 & 15?
