Savannah Fall 2007 ratings predictions

Any thoughts?

Will the Arbs be released this week or next?

104.9 John FM and Freedom 92.3 both garner a 17 share! ;D

In all seriousness, though... it'll be more of the same, no doubt. In other words, a giant yawn.

WEAS will dominate. I'm curious if Cumulus will do anything with WTYB.

I wonder if CC will do anything with WQBT.

WZAT...well, I've run out of words on that waste of electricity. WAEV will continue to soundly thrash them.

WFXH...it'll be up over WIXV (The Rock That Gathers Moss) but it's still thoroughly unlistenable. To quote/paraphrase David Cross, I'd rather hear the death rattle of my only child than listen to WFXH.

WRHQ will continue to post decent numbers, thanks to their awesome marketing presence.

WGCO will bounce back up.

I really don't see why WGZO's still around with that Classic Hits format. No one's listening. The same goes for WGZR. It seems Savannah has chosen WJCL-FM (KIX 96) as their Country station of choice, and no matter what you call WGZR (Gator, Lucky Dog, Fortunate Possum), the listeners aren't flocking.

WLOW's made some inroads on WYKZ but how much? Is WYKZ long in the tooth at this juncture?

Triad's sending a new guy down here to oversee the stations; he was previously in Lincoln, Nebraska. I'm curious if that means anything, format-wise, for their stations here.

What do you think it would take to make radio in Savannah not a yawn?

I think WYKZ will have a great book - with Christmas and being all over WTOC they should be on fire.

When will WZAT flip, really?

How will WEAS do with no morning show for so long?

What about the News/Talk stations...how will the morning shows do against each other?

A format flip that makes the listeners and the media sit up and take notice (a AAA station, an alternative station to challenge WFXH's faux one, a progressive talk station, et al). Granted, we are market #157, and the higher ups unfortunately NEVER want to rock the boat an iota but it'd be a nice and refreshing change of pace.

Your guess is as good as mine. It's an annual topic of discussion around here.

That's a good question. I thought they were going to air Big Boy's syndicated show (he has WEAS listed on his website as an affiliate), yet they're still live and local in the morning. Did the contract not go through?

Savannah - Friday
Hilton Head - Today - you know where to find it.

WFXH can't go down any more. And from what I've heard they are pretty good now. But Savannah takes time to react so you may not see a lot in this book.

Cumulus is waiting on the book to figure out what moves to make. All I'm saying. But they have to get rid of 1 station.

There haven't been any huge changes in Savannah radio recently and I expect the ratings to reflect that.

Russ, does Cumulus definitely have to dump one signal? I would think I-95 will pick up a little bit but you never know. Honestly, I don't mind the music there. Not to say it's perfect, but I flip over there in addition to WRHQ and Rock 106-1 (also should be up slightly).

What else? River should rebound. The Urban AC war is certainly worth following. I don't listen to The Coast, but how much overlap is there with Oldies?

Rock gets a 5.8 share on HHI. Nice!

I've noticed they're now positioning themselves as a "Savannah-HHI" station, instead of the other way around.

I listen to them both and I-95's gotten alot better than it was a couple of years ago. (Although they've always been good) Plus their DJ's seem more real and professional like you'd hear in a larger city. They deserve better ratings

That's one thing I'll give them: though I hate classic rock, from what I've heard whenever I've scanned the dial from time to time, their on-air presence/presentation and marketing are both terrific. WFXH could learn a thing or two thousand. Well, make that Triad could learn a thing or two thousand.

Back in the mid-late 90's, an overcast day would carry the signal so I could pick it up in Augusta with the radio in my 1979 Buick Electra 225 (Deuce and a Quarter, can't beat 'em!). I always liked their mix of music and imaging then. At that time they were a little harder and older than WCHZ, Channel Z 95.1 in the Augusta market, but they broke a few of the same bands. I would definitely want them to succeed. They're the last "cool" station of my younger years still around! Channel Z died in '96 and went to an all 70's rock format. WNNX 99X just died here in Atlanta, banished to a HD-2 channel and as an online radio station. I quote Cliff Poncier from "Singles": "Man, where are the anthems of our youth? What happened to music that meant something? The Who at the King Dome, or KISS at The Colosseum? Where is the Misty Mountain Hop, where is the Smoke On The Water, where is the Iron Man of today?!"

Wow, WIXV shot up there.

WFXH up a bit but no great shakes, much like the station itself.

Star 1400 (WSEG-AM) made a showing...I'm guessing the loyalty of those folks in The Landings to that format had something to do with that.

WZAT...zzz....c'mon...it's not even funny anymore, it's just sad.

WGZR - see my comments earlier in the thread. Ditto for WGZO

WLOW - damn, they went down alot.

WRHQ - down as well...alot of stations are down this book.

WQBT - ouch. Beat by WAEV and WIXV.

WGCO - a slight bump.

Did I miss anything?

JCL had another good book...waiting to see how GZR changes when/if they get a new PD....

95 was bound to rebound...good "male" book.

And of course you just CAN'T have a decent rock station on the air in Savannah without my ass on the air! Just not mornings, that is for sleepy time. That's why they ALL will continue to be mediocre. Russ, hand me my Kool - Aid will ya?...... Thanks.....Needs a little Bourbon! "I shaved the short and curlys for this", that's my new counrty song. You know, I asked my wife to marry me on stage one St Pat's day. I believe it was 2000, but don't quote me. And now I have a little boy who will be two on April 25th, AND now another child on the way.(just found out). And then.? And Then?(use racially insentive voice from Dude Where's My Car) ...Been with her for ten years, married for a little over five. Let me ask you guys, since you know me. How is it possible I got her pregnant the two times I've had sex since I've been married?????? I mean, CMON, the odds HAVE to be incredible. Although I'm starting to suspect the Homer Simpson flip top head of her birth control dispenser!!!!! And why does they taste like Cherry? Sorry, got to go. Time to head outside and give the pitbulls their swimming lesson.

A little bit of both. Just trying to have a little fun. If you ever heard me on the air, this is pretty much just normal behavior in my little mind. lol... I guess WKRP doesen't know me very well. lol...

You're one of a kind, Phil. That's common knowledge around here. ;D
