Savannah HAD a rock station?

Reliable sources are telling me that Boomer has already quit Rock 106.1.

Who can confirm?

Wow, already? I couldn't find anything on All Access. If true, maybe there'll be confirmation on here or in the trades on Monday.

Though I've not been listening lately, I have peroused their music log (via rock1061.com) and noticed a more varied playlist than they've ever had.

Dunno.

It would TOTALLY suck for Adventure. Might signal conflicts between OM and PD...

Or maybe Boomer is homesick. That stuff happens, y'know ;D

Being that he is back on-air today, I would say those sources are not so reliable....

Uh, yeah. not reliable at all. My "source" is clearly a rabble-rousing idiot.

;D funny!

Hey, how are you enjoying "winter", Boomer? I'm just glad it's finally gotten colder (not the cold you're used to, but still...) this week. There should never be 80 degree days in December. NEVER.

haha...so much for me logging in 'secretly'. ;)
i kinda liked the "cold" days we had there. It's flipping me out when the weather guys are saying its a "typical December day" when its 60 degrees out..
I suppose i'll adapt at SOME point....right??

60 degrees in December? How can one NOT love that?

But remember...ours is a "wet" cold.

Not meant to sound cryptic. Rock 1061 isn't going anywhere.....yet. They'd be in bad shape without Lex And Terry though. Any station in Savannah that had them on would do quite well in the ratings right out of the box, especially if they could do better in other dayparts! (insert evil laugh here!)

Hmmm...interesting...are you privvy to certain info, Phil?

I'd love a decent rock station here....something along the lines of what 96 Wave was (and still is, at least online).

Privvy, yes. Free to share, no. But, these kind of things are never really well kept secrets for long anyways. Doesen't need to be a secret in my opionion. It would be better for advertisers if it wasn't. That's how word usually gets out. But it's fun to speculate what might or could be. I've been working for Clear Channel for the last couple of months. It's actually been very enjoyable! You know, Clear Channel does own Lex And Terry. So, if we were to put on some type of rock station in Savannah, it would be HIGHLY probable that Lex and Terry would be part of the package. This has happend in other markets. Cumulus even did to me with Bob and Shari, although I didn't mind! They promised Jefferson Pilot at the time more stations if they could have Savannah. And recently in Huntsville, Clear Channel flipped a format and stole a morning team from rock station WRTT. So, it does happen, if you believe you can sell said station on air and online.

Not even a hint, Phil? ;D I know, I know...mum's the word...if indeed there's a word to be mum about.

As far as morning shows changing stations, that's also exactly what happened when Lex & Terry left Cox for Clear Channel - Cox's WFYV (Rock 105) in Jacksonville had to give up the show, which ultimately debuted on Clear Channel's WPLA (Planet Radio 93.3, now Planet Radio 107.3) after L&T's non-compete clause ended.

And since we're having fun, let's speculate on which CC station would be the one to flip. There are only two stations I could see flipping - WYKZ or WQBT, as WEAS is the heritage Urban station, and the Arbs reflect it, much like WJCL-FM is the station Savannah prefers for country, apparently.

There's one thing I love about Clear Channel - they know the definition of the word marketing and if they launched an Alternative station in Savannah with a diverse playlist (which is a must to combat WFXH's somewhat rigid playlist; I'm thinking of a recent station in another market whose name escapes me - Clear Channel flipped it to Alternative with the positioner "Radio [insert frequency here]", and they play newer stuff and indie stuff, but also mix in alot of grunge and early '90s Alternative), informed and personable jocks, a decent and handsome marketing budget, and a great online presence, they'd clean WFXH's clock.

And IF this aforementioned speculation became fact, might Savannah be once again greeted by the voice of JustPhil on the airwaves, even as a lark, for one day? ;)

I would have to speculate that I would indeed be on the air full time.

Yes, either 94.1 or 98.7 would be the likely candidates for a CC flip. We could see somewhat of a shift actually....

101.1 moves to 94.1?
101.1 becomes the rock station?
98.7...hmm...unless 105.3 is cleaning house in doctors offices all over town, I'm not sure about this.

As long as CC doesn't bring in a God-awful "Buzzard" or "Buzz" format, I may, MAY be ok with this. Some well programmed CC rockers like WJRR & WTKX would be welcomed here.

I'd love to see a rock station on a 100k stick, but if it's on 101.1, or even 98.7, then potential havens of rock listeners (and hence advertisers) wouldn't be reached. In my mind, to have a truly sucessful rock station in this AREA (Not just the city limits of Savannah), you have to put a clean, listenable signal into:

Hinesville,
Statesboro,
Beaufort &
Hilton Head

95.5 does, and they rule the roost. 101.1 & 98.7 do not accomplish that, and that's one reason why I pushed the idea of 106.1 moving to 106.9 (even though that only helps Statesboro & Hinesville reception marginally).

That's my point exactly. You don't compete with a station like WFXH by playing the same exact songs they do.

no need for moves Just Flip 94.1 it is a 100k Stick isn't it? Love IMO does not need a 100k stick. it's Competitor 1. is on a 50k stick and 2. is up forsale and might flip itself if/when sold
