Savannah might have an FM yacker soon...

While driving around town today, I decided to listen to 104.7 in Hinesville, and it seems as if they were doing some format testing. I heard a couple of talk shows in mono and a few liners saying "The Coastal Empire's *real* talk station...104.7 the Buzz". Later in the afternoon they cut abruptly from a talk show into hard rock (similar to rock 106-1). When I came back out to the car in the evening, the typical "Freedom" playlist was back on.

This might be an OK choice for the weak 104.7 signal, but why did they switch to the odd WTHG calls?

Hmm...I guess we will soon see...

What kind of talk was it? Conservative? Middle of the road? Liberal? Shock jock kind of stuff? Maybe Tama's going to try something akin to CBS Radio's Free FM. This could get interesting. I'd really like to see Tama take on Triad's lame-as-hell Rock 106-1 with a decently programmed *real* alt-rock station.
Edited by FilmCritic3000 on 04/02/06 02:57 AM.

It actually reminded me of your general Saturday talk-radio programming. I heard a stockbroker's program and a Sports show...forgot the names.

The music I heard was not too impressive. I recall big hits by Staind, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Black Sabbath, and Stone Temple Pilots. About the only thing that deviated from Rock 106-1's playlist was a not-so-popular song by the Cure (Killing an Arab).

Perhaps they were grabbing the feed from TRN? If so, then we'd certainly have Mancow and Savage...I suppose if they were testing it this weekend, and if 100.1 has stayed on for as long as it has (over 24 hours), I guess we'll see a change on Monday.

Is this station owned by Clear Channel??

If it is, and if it becomes talk, it likely will be broadcasting syndicated shows from sister company Premiere Networks (like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, etc.), shows that will likely have been snatched away from non-CC stations in the market that have been running them.

CC has launched several FM talk stations in recent months.

"Savannah" station?

> Is this station owned by Clear Channel??

Hardly. Radio-locator lists the station WTHG-FM as being owned by "Tama."

They always claim to be a Savannah station but check out their coverage map.

They might as well try talk, they've tried just about everything else, some formats twice!

HAHAHAHA! It only comes once a year...

APRIL FOOLS!!!!

Anyway, I hope I didn't piss anybody off too much

Re: "Savannah" station?

104.7 has already tried the talk format. They aired
Doug Stephan's "Good Day" show in the morning and Joseph
Farah's former talk program in the afternoon. After that,
they nuked the format and took 104.7 Contemporary
Christian. Now, they're Freedom 104.7. Three formats
in less than three years.

Re: "Savannah" station?

Oh, that's RIGHT.. they DID do Talk once already didn't they? Okay, if it happens, we'll add it to the list of formats they've tried twice.
