SAVANNAH RADIO.....BORING

RADIO IN SAVANNAH HAS REALLY BECOME MORE BORING THEN IT USED TO BE, IF THATS POSSIBLE. I DRIVE TO ATLANTA, CHARLESTON, RALIEGH, AND CHARLOTTE AND I DON'T HEAR ALL THE CRAP I HEAR ON MOST SAVANNAH AND H.H. STATIONS. PROGRAMMERS HERE HAVE NO IMAGINATION. I HAVE XM BUT I PREFER LOCAL RADIO WHEN THERES SOMETHING ENTERTAINING TO LISTEN TO. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO XM A LOT LATELY. SOME OF THE DINOSAUR DISC JOCKEYS THAT HAVE BEEN HERE BORING US TO TEARS FOR THE LAST DECADE OR MORE NEED TO MOVE ON OR AT LEAST OUT. IT SEEMS THAT ANYONE THATS REALLY GOOD DOESN'T STAY HERE VERY LONG.

THAT'S MY 2 CENTS. I DIDN'T MEAN TO OFFEND ANYONE BUT LOCAL RADIO NEEDS A LOT OF HELP!!!

That is the nature of radio in market #157 You have young people moving up in the industry who stay for a bit then move on and you have the old timers who have made it as far as they are going and stay for ever.

TILII,

Care to name names? First of the Dinasaurs and then a list of the good ones that left.

What, are they supposed to have imaginations? (Sorry, couldn't resist)

I HAVE XM BUT I PREFER LOCAL RADIO WHEN THERES SOMETHING ENTERTAINING TO LISTEN TO. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO XM A LOT LATELY.

Just the opposite with me. I listened to Sirius quite a bit until I got here. Since then, with a good radio setup I get 5 rock stations (95.5, 96.1 Chucktown, 98.1 ditto, 106.1, and 107.7 Brunswick) Add in Wave 104-9, Q Rock 105-3, South Carolina's NPR and Jack FM, and Savannah doesn't have it so bad. Try living in the sticks for 8 years, where the only local stations are country, light A.C. and bible-thumpers!

Obviously not...that's what small market radio's all about. Crappy pay, but a great springboard for budding talent. They'll get a job in a larger market, while those who are mediocre/dont want to move will stay. That's not unique to Savannah.

To the person who started up this post, I recommend the following:

1) Please stop using all caps. I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but in computer speak, you are yelling. It's good if you want to HIGHLIGHT a word or phrase, but not the whole post. Imagine the R-I board being an on-air studio with every word you type going out over the air. There would not be too many listeners if you constantly yelled

2) If you don't like something, change it. I noticed this on the Virginia board, where somebody constantly complained about how crappy the market was. Start out by getting an on-air spot on a college station (I'm sure SCAD or Savannah State would let a non-college person on the air)If you are popular, try to purchase a small AM station, a rimshot FM or try to build one from scratch. At the very least, fire up a part 15 transmitter and milk as much range out of it as possible. Sure, it costs money, but if you're not overextended in debt and you're dedicated, you'll do it.

I agree that Savannah doesn't have the radio diversity of a market such as Salt Lake City or Boston, but it isn't *that* bad, man!

Well, then get yourself hired as a PD/air-talent in SAV and show all of Savannah how scary-talented you are. Hopefully then you can teach us all how not to be so boring. I'm looking forward to it.

This guy reminds me of the guy in the Dilbert strips who yells. Or the SNL/Will Ferrell character who suffers from Voice Immodulation.

I must refer you to this image however...

It's NOT if you're good you go or if you're not you stay and you're stale. It's a choice, if you're looking to move up in markets, you make a choice to do it. If you've done it and tired of all the moving and want quality of life you stay. If you're not good you wouldn't be on the air at all. That's where all the critics come in about talent those who haven't lived radio or don't know it very well.

WE ALL KNOW WHO THE DINOSAURS ARE. WHY MAKE IT WORSE BY NAMING THEM? THE GOOD PEOPLE THAT LEFT IN THE LAST FEW YEARS.....JASON CAGE, JAY SINCLAIR, HOYLE DEMPSEY, PAT GARRETT, DAVE MURPHY, CAPONE...THAT'S ABOUT IT.

INTERESTING THAT ALL OF THESE PEOPLE WORKED ON TV CIRCLE.

Well pay attention, Jay Sinclair is back at TV circle, and I think the guy that replaced Capone is better ;)

Better than Capone? Don't think so. But, that wouldn't be saying a lot anyways. Could be better eventually. Hard to say, to busy listening to Sirius.

SIRIUS? It took me a while to figure it out but their playlists are far too shallow ("Alt Nation" is a *big* offender). I really enjoy xm (we have it via DIRECTV). Great selections and you don't hear the same nine songs over and over and over again. To each his own, I guess, but I like some diversity in my music playlists.

What've you been up to? If ever WFXH needed you, it's now - they're the very epitome of repetitive blandness. Hmmm...now that Neumann's gone, would you ever entertain the thought of returning? Or were the problems much more systemic, and not just limited to one person?

In any case, don't be a stranger, Phil.

I ABSOLUTELY UNDERSTAND! BUT, YOU SHOULD TRY LIVING IN AUGUSTA. WE HAVE TO DEPEND ON 97.3/Kiss-(WAEV) DOWN THERE JUST TO HEAR A NEW SONG!! AND ON SOME DAYS, BECAUSE IT'S 135 MILES AWAY, KISS MAY NOT REACH AUGUSTA. BUT MOSTLY IT COMES IN PRETTY WELL. THANKS TO "KISS" IN SAVANNAH FOR THEIR STRONG SIGNAL!!!

Sirius in the new car, XM on Direct TV. That way I can listen to Howard as well. I would certainly go back there now that Neumann is gone. It blows my mind that some of these cancers, the same people over and over again, keep getting job after job. After coming in and destorying one or a number of stations. Hey, at least T.O. has talent! It looks like that cluster needs some help with many things. Really the only person left in the building on the programming side with any experience to speak of is the new O.M. Susan. So, she has her hands full. I don't expect going back there, she won't even return my e-mails. I'd love to do it, kind of on a part-time basis. Maybe do the music and afternoon shift, but I'm not looking to be a full-time P.D. again.I think it drove me to drink! My wife would kill me to give up the money and benefits I have now, especially with a little boy on the way around May 1st. I think the only way I would do radio again full-time is if I owned part or all of a station or stations in a small market outside of Atlanta. Which may become a reality sometime this year. I'll be sure to let you know.

I agree I'd love to see the breakdown of the book by dayparts and demos to shed more light on that truth. WIXV went up yeh in 12+ Mon.-Sun.
