Savannah: Spanish on 94.7?

radiopilot said:
Confirmed that this spanish station is a pirate station, they vary the power from the morning which I cannot hear in Wilmington Island and then at night the signal is at least 500 watts up or more... Wow, whoever is broadcasting is going way over the part 15 limits for sure.

I don't understand the methodology you're using to confirm this is a pirate station. 94.7 isn't even on the air the mornings, no carrier, nothing. Is 94.7 being received in other parts of Savannah in the mornings, because from the Islands through downtown, I cannot receive it at all in the morning. Plus, how or why would a pirate be producing their own commercials for legitimate Sav businesses?

First... unless the FCC has changed it's call sign ruling and now has "Musica Latina" as a call sign on the half hour and top of the hour then maybe the FCC is coming to current times, there is no mention of the on-air dj's name, although I know who he is.

Yes, for a fact this station does come in loud and clear at night and just audible during the day here on Wilmington Island, so unless you live on Wilmington Island and can set your radio at night to see how strong this station is, and yes they are selling air time for night clubs (Charlies) and a Spanish goods store, and being Spanish myself and fully understanding what is being broadcast, yes I know they are pirate, won't be long before a $10,000.00 NAL fine from the FCC comes their way... they are broadcasting out of Savannah downtown somewhere because that is where the signal is most robust.

I can not find a CP or license for 94.7 in Savannah. Also, a legit station would not turn off their carrier during the morning drive...the most listened to part of the day and the time when commercials go for the highest price. Believe me, they will be found.

It's a pirate. It's mono, irregular and not in the FCC dB. Commercials? Go to Orlando (where there's usually 2-3 active FM Urban pirates) or SE Florida and listen to the dozen or more always active bewtween Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. Many Urban or ethnic Hispanic and Kreyol pirates run spots for mom-and-pop stores and clubs.

Well, the Federales haven't shut 94.7 down yet. I can't imagine the local FCC reps have THAT much to do here.

I was driving last night from Brunswick and I turn on to 94.7, the station was off the air, this morning we drove into town and the station was off the air, right now it's back on but barely audible (power turn down), thought they were nabbed by the FCC but I guess they are back on....

Well, the Savannah Field Office was shut down years ago, and it's activities transferred to Atlanta. Not only is there little to do, there is no one here to do it.

By the time reports get made and an investigation gets going, our pirate may find himself another hobby
