Savannah: Y 107.9

Debuted earlier today. Standard "Mix" type station.

Positioner: The best of the 90's, 2k & today.

Currently running jockless. Still using the poorly produced, sleep inducing "Adventure" commercial set.

The callsign, presently, is still WLOW, according to the FCC's FM query site.

http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.../call_hist.pl?Facility_id=72387&Callsign=WLOW

So does Triad think they'll be able to combat WAEV? The positioners remind me of WAEV's when they were Hot AC in the mid '90s as Mix 97.3, and I think Triad's going to try to replicate WAEV's success back then, and carve out a niche with Y107.9, but if Mix 102-1 couldn't do it, WLOW won't be able to either - *especially* if they're going to phone it in and half-a** it.

And you couldn't be more right, Guru. These commercials are terrible, absolutely terrible. But then again Triad's always never been able to tailor commercials to their station's formats, or their intended demo. I mean, I'm listening to Y107.9 online right now, and I just heard a commercial for tractors. TRACTORS! Really, WLOW? Really? You stay classy, Triad.

One of the reasons to operate a station "cluster" was to provide advertisers a variety of platforms in which to sell their wares. Different formats to target different demos, websites, etc. It makes sense. But, Adventures policy of "one size fits all" when it comes to commercials is illogical.

Can anyone convince me that Monty Jett's schtick will translate into ad dollars on Rock 106.1? How about a monotone guy originally from Ohio who's selling paint..is that an ad bonanza for Drive 103?

The commercials need to reflect the format, hence, reflect the P1's your aiming for.

Y 107.9 reminds me of Point 92.3. In fact, it could almost be mistaken for a simulcast.

All of Adventure's stations have sounded like that. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the Savannah Help Wanted and a few other commercials on those stations.

They are also doing the title and artist said out by computer like what 98.9 in Greenville does.

I'm a little late with this, but at least Triad has done away with some of the overlap that 107.9 had with 98.3, 103.1, and now 106.9.

I like the computerized thing on stations that may play more newer music that may be unfamiliar at first. 98.9 stopped it last year (it was kind of dumb on an AC)

How about CC's Commercial guy Keith Hendricks? seems to work for them. I also wonder will this mean a change for 92.3 the point.
Sam Diamond and the Crew there actually don't sound that bad right about now

Sam has really come a very LONG way & has 92.3 sounding pretty decent. Of course, their greatest handicap is their signal. Based on that, I don't forsee a change. They still cover Hinesville.

I also noticed today that the WLOW calls are gone (what a shame too). Calls on 107.9 are now WXYY.
