Save the Hog Campaign

Yeah, I also noticed that WLSQ showed up in the Knoxville book. Pretty interesting. I'm sure the 107.3 translator was responsible for the showing. I wonder why they chose to sell the translator along with 92.7? Seems like they would have kept 107.3 to simulcast "the Hog" on since it had pretty good coverage over most of Knoxville and helped them show up in the ratings book. Even though they certainly weren't going to be a big player in the market, I'm sure at least showing up helps with some ad bucks and with getting them noticed.

OMG How sad :( Who made this decision? And Why? They were really singin' along. For a Crossville station to show up in Knoxville for cryin' out loud that's got to say a little something??? Why would they change right before the book came out? They could've been celebrating the fact that they made a little racket in Knoxville and now instead they're probably scratching their heads and wondering why they didn't wait to see how it would turn out. Really makes no sense to me. ???

What's really amazing is that a month after WLSQ gets blown up, people are STILL talking about it. They were bulding quite a following for a little station out of Crossville.

This sound a little familiar to me. About 30 years ago a similar situation happened. WBIR was programming a country format with a 100kw signal and all of a sudden they drop it and went Rock. Some say a little of the green was passed around but the truth may never be known. Now a good sounding rim shot station drops it's format after a short time and goes in another direction. Hmmmmmmm..am I trying to start a rumor or what?

the translator did not belong to them and it doesn't belong to 92.7. It's against the rules for a commercial station to own or financially support a translator outside their 1 mv contour. If the FCC did a little snooping and discovered that either 92.7 or 105.7 paid to have their programming on the 107.3 translator, then fines would be certain and licenses would be in jeopardy. Of course if the owner of the translator (Dwight Magnuson) wants to rebroadcast those stations simply for the joy of spreading the programming, then that's his business. (smirk hidden for legal reasons).

WBIR-FM was country when Multimedia owned it. They sold it to Stoner. Stoner made it clear they were going to change the format to what they knew best. The employees who were riding out WBIR-FM until the sale closed went ahead and changed formats hoping to prove their worth and keep their jobs. There were no LMA's in those days.

It didn't work. Stoner pretty much cleaned house and brought in its own people.

I agree! That's what I've been saying in most of my posts, I've NEVER heard anyone reduplicate the sound of a T-40 station from 30+ years ago, much less do it almost as if they were back in 1977! And again as I've also said, not to mention come from Crossville! When was the last time anyone from Crossville has ever made an impression on Knoxville? Never, and most likely never again! Knoxville will still only get their 70's fix on the Flashback weekends because to my knowledge True Oldies is mainly all 60's. Some early 70's pre disco and that's it. Unless they've bummped up. Maybe someone could tell me if they have and I don't know about it. R.I.P. MusicRadio WLSQ you can't help it that some small town idiot or idiots put you to rest before even knowing your fate? It's like putting your dog down because you can't afford or don't know how to keep him, only to find out from the vet that the dog had a good 10 years in him, or that another owner was wanting to give it a good home!

Scott Shannon is a tremendous talent, but I have heard his true oldies channel in other markets for years and it never seems to last long. It's all Scott, all the time and the same 300 songs over and over again. An advertiser on the Hog told me the station told him a deal was in the works long before the Hog was saved to move WLSQ to another frequency. The Hog was going to be "saved" because WIMZ doesn't cover Crossville well and the Hog has strong local advertiser support there with a product the other cluster in town doesn't offer. He says, WLSQ will return?

You are correct, WLSQ will return... but no one will be able to hear it...

Will this WLSQ be the same format as the Crossville one. Yeah, I too enjoyed WLSQ. I can bareley remember the days when Top 40 sounded like that but it was great to have it back for a while. I would listen occasionally to 105.7 when it was South 105.7 and played country. Just by accident one evening I turned the radio to 105.7 and heard the Music Radio format. I was amazed. What did they do with Tony who was on in the mornings? I have listened to this True Oldies Channel alot and they have been playing some mid 70's stuff. The latest thing I heard on there was "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas.....and I think that was from somewhere around 1977. I remember when 98.3 WLOD went with True Oldies Channel for a while. He played alot of 50's then. Sounds like he has expanded his music offerings since then.

You all were talking about WBIR getting sold to Stoner.......they changed from country to rock - and kept the WBIR call letters for about a year. Then they changed the call letters to WIMZ. Does anyone know what the WIMZ call letters were supposed to represent?
