SaveWRKO: Poss. changes at WTTT (within Salem Comm.)

http://www.savewrko.com

"A long-awaited top-level managerial shakeup has finally hit Salem Communications, the troubled owner of Boston's WTTT-AM and hundreds of other stations across the country. In part, it means programming duties will be shifted to others within the company."

Maloney says that WTTT runs two shows from outside the Salem stable, Hannity and Dr. Laura, but it also
has Salem's "underperforming" talkers. He says local PDs (hello Jimi Carter) are given almost no power
(sound like AAR Boston? and WTTT hasn't shown in the ratings at ALL, though the signal could be part
of it)

"In the past few years, I've heard from more than one industry insider expressing bafflement when Salem's programmers were more concerned with how often a host says "hell" or "damn" than whether the show was compelling. Another complaint I've repeatedly heard is that Salem's pay and benefits are considerably lower than what one can expect from similar broadcast companies."

And for those hoping WTTT might go to prog talk, don't hold your breath. As long as Salem owns them,
the chances of prog talk landing there would be about as likely as a vegetarian sinking their teeth into
prime rib at the 99.

if I were PD of WTTT and told to keep it conservative:
6-10 am local host, not sure who
10-noon Dennis Miller
noon-3 Dennis Praeger, I guess
3-6 local host or Sean Hannity

6-8 Mark Levin
maybe Hannity later on tape delayed if not 3-6 pm
Maybe Phil Hendrie's new show (1 am our time) http://www.philhendrieshow.com

If I were programming WTTT, I would use this lineup:

5 AM - 9 AM Local Host (Scott Miller? Peter Blute?)
9 AM - 12 PM Laura Ingraham (take her from WTKK and give her live Boston clearance)
12 PM - 3 PM Local Host
3 PM - 6 PM Sean Hannity
6 PM - 8 PM Mark Levin (!)
8 PM - 11 PM Dr. Laura
11 PM - 2 AM Mike Gallagher
2 AM -5 AM Dennis Miller

Maloney says...

Interesting. However, I can't put any stock into anything Brian Maloney says.

He is a self-professed "authority" on radio....however, I can't find anything in his background that would make him such.

From what I can see....he's just another Bozo on the Bus with opinions.

Hi whole SaveWrko-thing is nutty....

10-noon Dennis Miller

While I like having all the big shows 'available' here in Boston, I notice Raccoon yu have a thing for Dennis Miller.

He's mildly interesting....amusing...but really does not have a track record as a talk show host.

(Mostly failed attempts to do things besides being a stand-up comic......!)

Show just started a couple months back; give it time

>>Monday, July 2
Hour 1: Guest - Ann Coulter
Hour 2: Guest - Rocker Ted Nugent
Hour 3: Guests - Comedian Dana Carvey

I have also noticed The the Racoon has a thing for Dennis Miller. I think Miller is like cheese cake. A little goes a long way. I find the fact that everything out of his mouth has to be some wise crack a bit tedious after a while.

It looks like WTTT has no interest in taking local lunatic Brian Camenker's money for his all Gay hate radio informercial. Camenker's Mass Resistance group is now looking for a new outlet.

Well Camenker had said they may reconsider...it was paid time so informercial is prob the best way to describe it.
Dennis M. is pretty good; there was a clip of him doing a spot on the O'Reilly factor (talking about Paris
Hilton and lib radio's troubles) and he entertained me.

Wikipedia: "Such (Dennis Miller) rants typically begin with 'Now, I don't want to get off on a rant here, but...' and end with '...of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.'"

Now isn't it refreshing to have a host who not only doesn't jump down a caller's throat but also admits,
hey, this is how I feel but I could be wrong; maybe _you're_ right...

Al Franken when asked about Miller's "right turn": “People have said to me, ‘What happened to Dennis?’ Nothing happened to Dennis. He’s the same Dennis. He’s always had a conservative streak on certain issues.” (Ibid.)

Camenker now says he is looking for a new station.

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks little of Brian Maloney the Radio A-XXXX. His Save RKO site was motivated by thier refusal to hire him.

From what I gather, he did a show for a short time in Seattle. I heard him fill in one Saturday last summer on RKO. He could rant for 5 minutes with out taking a breath.

He did 2 hours of anti gay stuff Along with the talking points The Mass Institute Against Families provided him he kept talking about 2 radical gay groups that have been inactive for close to 15 years. Act Up and Queer Nation haven't met since 1993 but that didn't matter to Brian.

WTTT is a market #11 clearance for SRN. It's not designed to be much else. I'd like to see Beck get a Boston clear, but Salem seems to (somehow) love Dennis Miller, who would seem to have a similarly non-goosestepping approach, but of course, the difference is WW1's $$$$. And that Premiere is a pain in the a** to deal with.

I know the in-house guy who's working with Salem's Boston cluster to get revenue up, and he's pretty good and has had a lot of success at their other underperforming clusters. Part of the problem with Salem is contradictory to what was mentioned here... they pay their AEs a base and don't demand much if any performance for quite some time until they're shown the door. If you have even a modicum of sales ability, you can easily keep a job at Salem forever, and make a very marginal but liveable salary. Here in California, it's around $38k.

for awhile WRKO (carries other Premiere shows: Rush, Drudge) had Beck on Sat nights. They could always
switch to Beck if they, say, paired Feinburg w/ the Felon full time. Beck can be heard in Worc.,
Manch, and Prov.
Other Salem talkers are indeed taking Miller but not here so far.
Westwood One asking big bucks for him eh...the will-he-or-won't he status of Imus may be
handicapping WTKK. If Imus returns with a new syndie deal, say in the fall, they could just return
Graham to 10 am (he tech. is still there anyway) and put Imus in am drive (unless he chooses to do
a diff slot)...why commit to another show (even a syndie like Miller) if Imus may come back...

Didn't know Beck was off WRKO Saturdays. He did add HJJ/Providence and is on 'TAG and in Worcester. However, to clarify, I was indicating WW1 paying Salem for Miller clearances, not Salem paying them.
