Sawyer brown

I still hear them somewhat regularly on QDR, in Raleigh, NC
 
Sawyer Brown hasn't released a single in several years...at least not one that had a lot of charts success, so a station that focuses on the latest, greatest country music isn't going to play them. If the station(s) in your area are more moderate ("the best new country and all your favorites"...etc), or even on some classic country stations, you may have a bit more luck hearing Mark Miller and the boys.

The guys tour very regularly, and Mark has become a successful record producer. He produced the Christian band Casting Crowns and American Idol finalist Bucky Covington.

I wouldn't say so. Pretty much what BigA and I said before tells the story...stations can't play what isn't released; Sawyer Brown hasn't released anything to country radio since 2005 or so, and that's quite a while. Secondly, not every country station plays older material. Many do, but there are a number of stations that are pretty much Top 40 Country now. If it's not hot and new, it's gone.

I like Sawyer Brown myself, but you can't expect a station to play them or anybody else if they don't feel they fit the sound or the demographics they're looking for. Like it or not, that's how it goes.
 
I have most of their material going back to "Step That Step."

Any songs in particular you want to hear Eddie?
 
One of my favorite Sawyer Brown songs that you never hear anymore is "This Missin' You Heart Of Mine.

I still hear some Sawyer Brown on the radio, a couple of their biggest 90s hits. I would say you are more likely to hear songs from 1989 in 2009 on country radio than you would have heard songs from 1969 in 1989.

Yes, and I think that's because the tone of the music today is not all that different from 1989. There was a TV special a few years ago about the "Class of '89" and its influence on country music... Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Clint Black, maybe Vince Gill, and others. Maybe one reason they refer to the late '80s as a return to the new traditionalism in country is because of its movement away from country-pop. But you're right... I don't recall hearing very much Merle Haggard or Tammy Wynette on the radio in 1989.

Some of those songs no longer "test" with country audiences...however, songs such as "The Race Is On" and "Six Days On The Road", depending on your locale still do more than well enough to play.
 
I prefer the old version of "Six Days on the Road", which my radio station plays. I like "Leona", "Step That Step" and "Betty's Bein' Bad", and I seem to recall liking "Out Goin' Cattin'".

The only song that I've heard on the radio by Sawyer Brown is "The Race is On".

"The Race is on" is a oldie classic at some of the local country stations in my area , with "Step That Step" mainly being played at request time

But I think as someone said, unless you are listening to a station playing a 90s and now country format, Sawyer Brown is no longer on the radar due to lack of showing up on the country charts in recent years and listeners who are now not familiar with them at the new country stations.

Randy Travis is getting airplay currently with Carrie Underwood "I told you so" and still gets airplay from "three wooden crosses" and he is considered mainstream country christian now

The one Sawyer Brown song that I hear occasionally on the radio is their big 90's hit "Some Girls Do". I don't think that one sounds to dated, and most mainstream stations could get away with playing it as a gold title.
