They just don't give any of them time enough to build an audience. I like the fact that Cable networks tend to let their shows have the time to build an audience.

More time was not needed for Kelsey's new show. It was horrible from the word "Go". Back To You was a better show for Kelsey and that one got axed by FOX last season. I agree that networks are too quick to pull the plug these days and a show like Cheers or Seinfeld would never have a chance to grow in today's climate (both shows were rating cellar dwellers their first seasons) but Hank was nothing special and was dragging down the rest of ABC's lineup which is actually very good with The Middle and Modern Family. The latter being the best freshman comedy I've seen this season.

If they're pleased with the 9 pm comedies, and it appears they are, there's no reason to put a failing show there on Wednesdays; Thursdays are working well for them; Friday is a dead zone anyway, so seeing an improvement there is exceedingly unlikely. They already have the seasonal filler scheduled for Dancing with the Stars, so that doesn't leave a place to put it.

They should try a new timeslot instead of canceling it.

Second, the humor was more low-brow, whereas Modern Family, The Middle, and yes even Cougar Town make you think a bit.
I liked both Kelsey Grammer's shows. And Bob Saget's. Cynthia Stevenson is adorable.Lkeller said:But Saget and Grammar must have enough money for a dozen more life-times. And this makes 2 clunkers for Grammar - the other one being that Fox show last year with Patrica Heaton.
I will admit, now that I've gotten to know the characters, it's my favorite new show. That status once belonged to "Hank" but only because I liked Kelsey so much.Lkeller said:fussbudget said:Heaton's show has been picked up for a full season.
She picked much more wisely than Grammar. The Middle is a decent show. Compared to Hank, it's a literary masterpiece.

I agree, except to me he's so good that I don't even notice his character's aren't as brilliant as Frasier.Lkeller said:landtuna said:I didn't think Grammer was funny on 'Cheers' and he went downhill from there. I'll have to dissent from that opinion. I think the Frasier Crane character was brilliant - both on Cheers, and on Frasier. That character has been cited as the second longest run of any character on television - the first being Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke. Richard Belzer's Munch character (Homicide, L&O SVU) has to be breathing down their necks.
But it's Grammar's huge success with Frasier that made me wonder why he's chosen such unworthy projects since then.
