Say goodbye to MTV's "TRL!"

If a tree falls down in the woods and no one is around to hear it- does it make a sound?

The last vestige of MTV's showing videos is going away and which means more reality shows for everyone to see. They should rename MTV "MTV Reality Channel" and just get it over and done with.

No, it should be the Spoiled Rich Kid Channel.

Besides TRL and a block at about 2 in the morning, when does MTV show videos anymore? Since they went with reality programming 23/7 will record companies now push acts to stop bothering with videos all together? Besides Youtube where the heck would anyone see them?

I think that MTV should just get rid of all their shows, and put them on another new channel and just devote MTV to music videos like they used to be.

This cancellation really doesn't mean anything besides retiring the TRL name and possibly the countdown format. FNMTV is coming back for a new season right after TRL ends its run. The last time I check out FNMTV, it was nothing new but a repackaged TRL to me.

I remember when TRL use to be two separate shows, the Live part during the daytime and the Total Request in the evening. Imo, they should have left it that way and never merged the two shows at all.

Maybe they should go back to running Monty Python and The Young Ones like in the late 80's...

Oi!

Except for the occasional viewing of Run's House...nah, I wouldn't miss MTV too much either.

You mean they're taking away the 14 year old girl screaming fest! OH NO!! ¿HOW WILL MTV SURVIVE?!!
Not to be confused with the screaming 14 year old girls who used to be a standard staple of American Bandstand????? ;D

That might not be a bad idea to stop bothering with videos. I think videos is what caused the decline in music and artist quality anyways.

They don't even show videos in the morning anymore. And on top of it, just a few years ago, they changed the method of displaying Artist/Song info on the screen from the way they had done it since Day 1. But they DO still have videos on MTV Hits and MTV Jams. And on MTV Hits, they had these VMA Flashback Playlists, and they showed a few performances from the early 90s, and even Madonna's 1984 "Like a Virgin" performance on the very first VMAs.

Internet killed the video star.
Why run music videos when the kids today can get any music video for free on demand on you tube???

My recommendation for MTV is to model after Canada's "Punch Much" station, if they're still going to target the teens and twenty somethings, that is...
