Say Goodbye To Star 93.3

Does the Hudson Valley need another rock and roll station? Are you kidding. To have just 1 would be nice. You don't think that WPDH, the home of smut and droll, is a real rock station, do you? Their playlist is all of 400 songs, I've heard them play songs from the same band 3 times in the course of 1 shift. The children who claim to be disc jockeys weren't even born when the actual rock songs they play were on the air for the first time. The morning jock has got the worst voice in the history of radio. I've heard 2 disc jockeys actually pronounce the letter w correctly. They have dumbed down the Hudson Valley for so long with their lack of musical knowledge, misinformation, and absolute immaturity. They won't be missed, at all. Unfortunately 93.3 won't succeed. Their playlist is all of 65 song longer and became very boring to listen to in less than 1 weekend. One day someone with real talent and a true rock and roll vision will put a good station on the air. The popular buzz phrase will be WPD who?

Glad to see you coming to the board. Let me explain to this. WPDH has been a rock station for 36 years. Last week, WBWZ flipped to a rock format dumping Hot AC's "Star 93.3" out of the way, and many of the listeners are still upset about not getting a Hot AC station. There only one Hot AC to get is WCTW's "The Cat" at 98.5. It's up in Catskill and Bill Williams did an excellent job for the station to bring former listeners from the defunct "Star 93.3". Poughkeepsie can't get 98.5 at all because it unlistenable in other areas. To top this off, "Rock 93.3" is going to compete with the other two stations including WPDH and WBPM. As you know WBPM has been on this station for 5 years and Randy Turner did a reasonable job for putting the station on the weaker side. WBPM has been struggling in the ratings since a few Poughkeepsie ratings books. Bob Miller had a decent morning show, I have that aircheck of Bob Miller when he was doing evenings on "Fox Oldies" when he was filling in for Joe Manglass back on October 21st, just two days before he came to WBPM to do mornings. I guess Bob Miller is still an oldies guy to do some stuff on that station, but isn't going anywhere. Enough said, I hope this rock station at 93.3 is going to tank, HV still has 5 rock stations including WPDH, WBPM, WRRV, WDST, and now WBWZ. Let's hope 93.3 fails in the Poughkeepsie spring book when it comes out. Let's hope!

Personally, I never hope for any station to fail. Hopefully, adding another rock station to the mix will help make the existing rockers work harder to be even better.

chuck benfer is the reason 93.3 (formerly WBPM) went to rock and roll. He has an axe to grind with WPDH. He ****ed things up in the Albany market, he will do this in the Poughkeepsie market. I enjoy watching this. He is a liberal who deserves what he will get. Hudson Valley radio sucks. There is no talent here. Big ideas, small minds and even less ability. Been here too long, I've already written this book. This is the valley of the adult child. People refuse to grow up. Mom and dad allow this, small minds and even less ability. But these are the smartest people anywhere. Just ask anybody. The truth hurts. Instead of moaning and bitching, do something, I will.

Hya D To The J .....

This 64-year old ex-NYC punk was doing some DXing a few hours ago -- listening for distant stations on an actual radio -- and caught a few stations out of Philly. WRDW, WPST and WISX were among them. They were all FMs. They were all hot and new and Gaga'd and Rihanna'd and all had the hand-stamp of commercial clusters. They all sounded THE SAME.

D, I'm a former music director (four different stations) and I still cannot discern any difference between modern pop stations in 2012 -- CHR, Hot A/C, tepid A/C or gold-based A/C. The music all sounds as though it's aimed strictly at the loins of females age 29 1/2 who want to be 19 1/2 again.

Again, I'm an AARPer for fourteen years. But to my ear, me well out of the demo and underlined in grey: if this current pre-packaged/inspected-by-#34/overprocessed studio masturbation is what passes for rock nowadays, no wonder the kids aren't buying the scam. No wonder stations are 'languishing'.

WRDW sounded like WISX? Well, to each their own. All three you picked up were essentially CHR's. ISX is a Hot AC but it still sounds like a CHR.

As a successful businessman once told me: Competition is good for everybody. WPDH? Too many adult kids (good one, Doc!) have listended to it for years and will not change, Unless something good comes along. Fox oldies 98.9 has the best oldies programming I have ever heard on. Word is that since WCBS has gotten into the 90's they lost the core oldies auduence, and I agree, cbs-fm is awful these days. many former listeners to CBS have switched to 98.9. Sure, I could give you a list of things that need changing on 98.9, mostly talent issues, but the point I'm making is--Something new and with more variety could topple PDH right now. I think the timing is good, but I don't think anything done within the next month will have an effect on the spring book. I know you can't elaborate, Doc, so good luck and hopefully you will make a difference (and maybe some $$!)

and if you check out chris marino's facebook, his last post states "Have a GREAT weekend fb friends... Monday morning I will be able to announce where I'll be on the Hudson Valley radio dial :) Thanks for all the support and friendship... CM"

YES - thank you Clear Channel, for supporting 40k a year dj's, with no talent, and no integrity. "Keep it local" and cheap". Chris Marino is about to bank another radio station - good luck to the OM and GM who have to answer after his mess and who haven't lea rned from his awful number so far! He is one of the WORST dj's in the HV.

Again, good luck. You get what you pay for. TRASH!
