Just came on. I don't know what they're playing right now. No clue.

Lyrics are "Rock & Roll is king". Sounds like it's from the 70's or 80's. Sounds like it was produced by Jeff Lynne (worked with Tom Petty, Travelling Wilburys).

Now they're playing something that would be classified as soft 70's pop-rock.

Boy, I must really be young! :p

Last of Chet's playlist was "Last Song I'll ever sing for you." First song of new format: "Rock and Roll is King" by ELO; now playing "New Kid in Town" by the Eagles.

Going as "All the music you wanted to hear." Ah well, so much for 24x7 Polkas.

Ah! So I was right about spotting "the Jeff Lynne sound"? Sweet!

Three things that hit me, right off the bat:

1) Unless they've made prior arrangements, might they face getting hit with a C&D from someone for using the "River" name?

2) Why call it "105"??? Everybody's has digital tuners now! ...Even in NEPA :) Unless it is (or is eventually going to be) a simulcast with another "105" station in the surrounding areas.

3) They just gave a shout to Hazleton... Does the station even reach Hazleton?

105 The River.

WOW! This Was Unexpected!!!!

Just Played "Another Brick In The Wall" Into "Goody 2 Shoes" And Then

"Good Vibrations" From The Beach Boys.

Can't Wait To Hear What Else Happens!

Really Nice Liners .... Calling Music Sweeps "River Cruises".

I'd hazard to guess that DL inspired the new name, since he's now "up the river." lol

Actually I was never able to get 104.9 in Hazleton. I used to be able to get them to the I-81, 80 junction but for the last few months the station has degraded to the point that I can hardly get it to Nuangola. Don't know if they need transmitter repairs or what but there are times I can't even get them at work in Wilkes-Barre (my radio at work can get some out of town stations like Y-106.5 so it's not the radio).

Add to above: I just heard the same liner about Hazleton. I'll check on my way home to see how far I get down 81 with 104.9 and it seems to be stronger at work right now than it was this morning.

Can a station increase its coverage? Getting 104.9 would be a change from before, but it would be odd for them to mention Hazleton getting what they asked for if they could not reach Hazleton.
Edited by dmer on 09/26/05 08:18 PM.

Rob, all I have to say about this flip at 104.9 is -- They should've gone DANCE!!! Northeast PA NEEEEEEEEDS a dance station!!!

Good luck, bro :)

Unless said prior arrangements were made, Clear Channel's trademark in Pennsylvania to the name has lapsed, or they just don't care about Scranton since they don't own anything there, it would seem inevitable that WWRR is hit with the same cease and desist that Nassau received at WODE a few years back.

For those that don't remember, when WODE flipped from Oldies to Classic Hits they originally tagged the station "99.9 The River". Clear Channel, protecting a brand they have based at 97.3 in Harrisburg, forced Nassau to drop the name. Hence "99.9 The Hawk".

However, Backyard Broadcasting, the owner of 5 radio stations in Williamsport, and also stations in Corning/Elmira NY, Olean NY and Muncie, Indiana are using the name "The River" for their 107.9 frequency in Williamsport...and even though Clear Channel is in that market they have been using the name for nearly 3 years now. Seems like they would have stopped them in a market that they are actually in...but it appears they haven't. So maybe the WWRR people will be fine using this name.

NO RIVER IN HAZLETON

I just heard the same liner about Hazleton.

104.9 is complete static in Hazleton. On I-81 south the signal starts to degrade at about the Nuangola exit and then improves going up the mountain after Dorrance before it completely goes out. I tried my radio in the house which has good reception and on 104.9 I get bleed over from 105.1 WILQ from Central PA. Nice of the River to give Hazleton "what we wanted," too bad we can't hear it.
