Say hello to Desi Radio 1250am

I stand corrected. However, seeing the name "Desi" would make most think it's a Hispanic format, not South Asian.

Desi, pronounced somewhat like "Day-see", is the term for Asian Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi expats.

"Desi" is a very uncommon nickname in Spanish... so uncommon that the only one I know of is Mr. Arnaz. It is an English speakers' shortening of "Desiderio" which is a name that fell out of favor before W.W. II.

Hispanics would not even imagine that Radio Desi might be a Spanish language station.

But 99-44/100% of non-Hispanics might imagine it is - which was the point of my post and lost in all the mumbo-jumbo that followed it.

Now, David - go have the last word (as most often you do). I'm finished with this thread.

Fordranger, 1250 stopped using HD about six to eight months ago.

I wonder if the "Desi" is a reference to the call letters as well? I'm guessing they haven't changed.

First noticed the format change a week ago.

Slightly different style of South Asian music than I've heard on KVRI, KRPI, and CJRJ -- at least the times I've tuned in.

RE: Disney. 1640 KDZR in Portland is still Disney. KMIK 1580 was still Disney as of two nights ago. But they're dropping like flies. Record 'em while they're still on the air as Disney stations. If you're into that sort of thing......

It's apparently following the pattern of co-owned Radio Desi, KLOK, in the SF Bay Area.

WHat you hear now will likely change as they sell the time blocks to brokers, which is the model used at KLOK. Each broker has a different style.

EM-Eye-Seee.. See you on a live stream or an HD-3 channel!

Just curious.. What would someone record? One minute a Hanna Montana classic the next something else? Doubt there would be any structured good byes.

I've noticed (whenever KDZR decides to come in here) that Radio Disney has mostly turned into a CHR, KISS-like format. The Hannah Montana stuff is long gone, replaced by the usual stuff that KBKS, KQMV, KFFM (Yakima) air, without a few rap songs.

Well they wouldn't want to send the wrong message to young people...

Record some of the music & IDs, 'cause when they're gone it's the end of pop on the US AM airwaves.

Just Googled earth over the old night time site, now split up for building houses. I would say 500 watts or less from the West Seattle location.

The only people who will probably miss Radio Disney are the school bus drivers who used it to keep their passengers quiet during the ride home.
