Say Hello To Joey

I'm no web designer, but that page looks like a first draft. The color schemes on the text and buttons are difficult to discern. Even though it looks like a promo piece for the show, I'd bet a tie from Sattlers or a six of Pabst that lawyers representing the Phantom and a few other shows will want either a disclaimer or re-framing of the picture. That said, "Swing Joey, swing! Burnnn baby..." Best wishes from your fans in Buffalo.

What is KB putting in Joey's place? I'm a night owl, and I really hate Coast to Coast and by that time, I'm all sports talked out...........I used to really like Jim Bohanan on overnight last year on WECK, before WBEN picked him up live........I wish they would put Laura Ingraham at that time, since it's tape delayed anyway, and I'd rather hear Tony Bruno on Fox sports when she is on and then her instead of JT the Brick.

The last time I saw Joey on TV was on a mid-60s WKBW-TV Variety Club Telethon. As an 11 year old radio geek I was riveted to 1520 from 7 - midnite and worshipped Joey Reynolds - the ebullient, irreverent bad boy with the unforgettable radio laugh. I'm sure you guys felt the same: this crazy, party guy with the voices, the spontaneity, the energy, the comedy - Joey was irresistible!

In years following, listening to Joey never brought the same satisfaction. I happened to be living in Philadelphia during his brief morning stint on WFIL, but I didn't feel anything near that joyous listener experience I had during his KB glory days. Similarly, when hearing Joey on nighttime network radio, I enjoyed the soothing familiarity of that radio voice from my childhood, but the performance itself left me cold, to be honest.

To this day, though, I love Joey Reynolds. Not just for the memories, but it was Joey's absolute raucousness and joy on the air that fanned the flames of my own fascination with radio and ultimately led me to it as a career. (Yes, he's the culprit responsible for this sickness :D )

I wish Joey the greatest success! After all these years he's still doin' it. And when the TV show comes on, I'll be watching in a darkened room lit by a lone purple candle.

Nick, you are not the only one! Joey's antics were good lunch time conversation at school the next day, and led me into that crazy business called radio. He is amazing, like you said he's still doin' it.

I found a recording on Ebay of Danny, Joey and Bob Diamond from February 1964. Wow it still sounds good to me after all these years! John Zak was doing most of the newscasts and after being in the business I can hear some of the tricks they used that I didn't notice as a listener (like making it sound like GoodWill Industries was actually sponsoring the news by saying...a service of or in cooperation with).

There were fewer tech toys in the studio but the personality was there 24 hours a day!

Joey was in town this past Sunday to be interviewed for a WNED piece I'm working on about broadcasting in Buffalo. He is perfectly happy with his situation. He says he will be launching a 3 pronged mult-platform show. (radio-TV & web)

He has had talks with Mr. Wenger about his continuing presence on KB.
I don't know what that means.....Don't Touch That Dial!

He got to town, did the interview, stopped at LaNova picked up 4 boxes of chicken wings and flew out, wings in hand.

I'm glad to read this and I wish him well. Joey Reynolds, some people never understood what he was doing. I connected with his humor right away! He is my hero and sounds as good as ever which is amazing! Glad to read he will be doing something on the web!

According to KB's website (yeah, they actually have one) Entercom will pick up Phil Hendrie to replace Joey Reynolds all night. Hendrie has major market stops in Atlanta, Miami and LA and has been syndicated a few times. Once playing the role of angry conservative, he's now back to doing what he's best known for, entertaining with humorous commentary and off-the-wall character voices.

Ugh, Phil Hendrie is the anti-Reynolds. I don't know Joey Reynolds but I can figure out what he thinks of Phil Hendrie. Joey in a blog post took Jay Leno to task for "Jay Walking" where Jay makes people look like idiots. Hendrie does the same thing with his callers who buy into the so called off-the-wall character voices. If you listen close enough they all sound like Phil Hendrie. Another example of making fools out of people in the name of entertainment. I don't find it funny or entertaining.

Maybe Entercom should sign KB off at midnight and save on that electric bill.
