Yup, AM 1290 in West Hartford is now WCCC-AM again!!

Per an email from Marling Broadcasting Chief Engineer, the call letters stand for "Connecticut's Classical Connection"

They should just start SIMULing with the FM again like they used to :)

Forget it. With WNPR flipping from Classical to talk last May, 1290 WCCC is the only Hartford Station playing Classical Music. Not everyone has a good enough antenna to recieve WFCR from Amherst.

Further more 1290 WCCC actually serves it's city of license as they carry numerous games from both high schools in West Hartford. The spring play-by-play schedule can be found at: http://wtmi.com/whsports.htm

was wccc Fm ever classical?

Yes...it was classical when it first signed on back in 1959. It was owned by a local Jeweler, Bill Savitt. The CCC comes from the rating assigned to diamonds...Cut, Color, Clarity and Caret. (Maybe it should have been WCCCC.)

It was also Top 40 "Triple C" for several years, from the late 60s, until the summer of 1975, when it flipped to
Progressive Rock, and gradually evolved to what it is now...WCCC was an outstanding Rock station, during the later months of 1975, and the first half of 1976...
