After years as the River, Halibertin Broadcasting has flipped 105.1 in Niagara Falls ON to Variety Hits as "105.1 Ed FM." I wonder how well this will do against "Jack."

Curious, is this an FM sister to CJRN-AM?

When I lived in Niagara Falls, ON 1969-1970, CJRN was on 1600 but I think moved to 710...their morning guy used to do a contest with the first two kiddie callers, if their birthdays matched, both won a dollar. Don't remember his name but he used to tag his timechecks with "...later than it's ever been."

Considering the front page of the Niagara Falls Review was carrying stories about running out of oxygen before 1990, and my 7th grade science teacher at Princess Margaret Senior Elementary telling us we were all gonna die from global cooling...those time check were spooky to say the least.

Such were my two years as a "landed immigrant".

Ironic, all the years I spent listening to 'KB were after I left the area in the fall of 1970.

I'll have to try "Ed" next time thru on The 90.

Probably as well as the Breeze. At least Ed is on FM. As to competing with Jack, Buffalo or Toronto? Insignificant. A lot of that going around on radio these days. Plenty of room at the bottom.

Signal is not great here in suburban Buffalo. 91.7 comes it better.

Speaking of 91.7, the Giant, I've had the station on all day here in my den as I work on the computer on a special project. It's the first time I've tuned in since earlier this summer. And all I can say is that I'm hearing some pretty good music today, including tunes I usually don't hear on the radio.

There is no Jack Toronto...

Still funny how Giant 91.7 abandoned the format that ED FM picked up.
It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Giant might be kicking themselves...or not.

Signal has been very tough to pick up for me throughout WNY.

signal is tough for wny,
and the first thought - oh wonder if
jack has some competition but
the last time I checked, ED -FM- is in
southern ontario, and Niagara falls (ont)
has its own books, perhaps they dont
care about buffalo . . .
(and this includes jack fm )

See how they stack up against
CHRE,CHTZ and be interesting to
see if they score better than
"brother" station CKEY
(not a fan of sister-station)

Actually, it was Gene Valitis from the Jesse & Gene days on AM 640 (as the beat of Toronto) where it all started. Gene decided (way back in 1993) that it's an insult to call the "Mighty" Q a sister station. It's a Brother station.

He said "let the softer sounds be sisters".

Tough signal to pick up in the house and it's not much better in the car.

River used to be at 101.1 years ago...if they want, they could move Ed FM back to 101.1!
Sounds like WKSE would LOVE that...unless Ed's music is too much like STAR FM.

In the money demos, Kiss has three times the listeners than Z-101. The stations that keep Kiss honest are WYRK and Star.
