Say it ain't so! KBSG Lives!

Oh, yeah, baby. Somebody took my advice and snatched those great South Sound call letters, KBSG! The Aberdeen LPFM station, in a super, super move ;) is now the proud owner of KBSG. Together with their South Sound translators, they might......just might be able to gain a great audience!

Well, "great" IS a relative term.

I am pretty happy with the response we are getting with these station(s), considering we are entirely voluntary, extremely low powered and of course have no marketing budget. By "we" I mean Dr. Sandi and her crew of 3 idiots (self included) that make up what might loosely be referred to as an air staff. I think it's cool that the calls are staying in Western WA, anyway. What we end up doing with them, who knows? ;)

Our stations serve small niche groups, to be sure. Liberal talk in Aberdeen pretty well defines the definition of small niche, hee hee. And the 40s to 70s music mix for Ocean Shores pretty well matches that sleepy little burg. Besides, the mass audience in that area is otherwise well served by a truly decent local broadcaster already- who posts here occasionally as well. So, as the kids like to say, "It's all good."

Now I am off to record my morning show...we all have to have day jobs here in the LPFM world!

What was/is so great about the KBSG calls? It was hardly a powerhouse or a touchstone station like KJR, KOL, KING, KISW, etc.

I hope they do ya good but I see them as ... well, just call letters.

Whilst KBSG are definately legendary calls to have now, one does need to remember they were originally the dyslexic call letter approximation of "K-Best", 97.3's original moniker as an oldies station from 1988.

At any rate, I'm glad somone in Western WA got 'em. Hate to see them end up in Minot, ND like another classic set of Puget Sound call letters (KYYX).

I'm surprised no one has picked up KCMU yet. Would make great calls for an all-traffic station (a'la AM 730 in Vancouver, BC), as in "CoMmUter"

Maybe KIRO-AM ought to consider that. We already got way too many sports stations and not nearly enough listeners. All traffic in the proverbial vehicular mess Puget Sound is makes more sense.
