Say Something Nice...

Hey, I was just reading some of the posts here and I've noticed that there are a lot of angry people on this board. Can anybody say something nice about radio? Or is it that we've all been so completely burned by this business that we are too far from being saved? (Myself included)

OK....I'll bite!
Isn't it great to live in the age of instant, mass communications! Where radio, television, the internet, and telephone make us one "global village"......different in race, creed, and culture, but many diverse voices -heard by all!!
And isn't great that we live in a country where we are free to criticise our media and the people who own and operate these companies.
And isn't it great that any one of us(instead of the government)can own our own station or website and say or play what we believe is the "truth."
And isn't it great that we have Radio-Info....so we can twiddle our time away complaining!!

I think the advances in recording industry technology - from vinyl to cds and now .mp3s, along with digital recording and home studios, is incredible! No more pops and clicks or lo-fi. The options we have now from satellite radio and online streaming have given a venue to previously neglected genres and I, for one, am loving it.
Finally, there are still a lot of super nice people around in the business, some of them highly visible such as WSB's Scott Slade and Mike Kavanaugh. Wish there were more like them, but at least there are still some around.

I can put up with it when I'm not near my mp3 player or the Music Choice channels at home...is that nice enough?

I'll second that! I've been in the business for about 3 years and have met some really awesome people. When I was in school, it was drilled in to my head how mean & cut-throat this business is. Well, the BUSINESS of this business can be mean & cut-throat, but they PEOPLE in the business are, for the most part, really cool. The ones I've interacted with and have learned from have been very helpful and supportive.

I've been told the same thing and I've met several very cool people so far. Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe the "(BLEEP)" aspect of radio personalities is a bit overblown.<P ID="signature">______________
