Say..What the Deuce is up with the ROOSTER?

Hi everyone. I used to have an office there in Orange Park before we moved offices, and I enjoyed hearing the antics of the Rooster. Where is it now? I heard that Paxson or someone moved it to another frequency, and now I just don't hear it anywhere while driving through there this week. While delivering a van to an outdoor sign company there I couldn't help but notice a mocked up billboard. This same thing happened in Arizona when I delivered a flatbed truck to the CBS outdoor people..they apparently do a lot of billboards and such for radio stations. Anyway I always make a point to looking around back where the mock up boards are set up. and there was a big red and blue board for "93-3 The Deuce"What is the DEUCE? Are they going to go oldies? Wasn't that the rooster? Where is the rooster now? Huh? No I don't remember the outdoor advertising company but they were in an industrial area with a bunch of those minni warehouse type buildings way south of that country club off of Chaffee Rd. I remember the buildings were kind of tan and white.

thank you

hmmmm......I declare someone should go oldies/classic hits....WROO seems to be the choice that everyone wants to see go away from country....hmmm...let see what happens....we could we see a shake up in the next few days to a few weeks?

Making Rooster an oldies station would require actual effort and that's not something CC is exactly exuding. Rooster has and will continue to wither further into insignificance to the point it disappears. Besides, do you REALLY want CC doing the job?

The Rooster has been playing some classic rock/pop hits lateley. Eagles, John Mellencamp, Bob Seger....
Could be they are easing into a transition to this format.

I've caught that too, when I occasionally turn on 93.3 to hear if the Rooster's still crowing. And whenever I hear Clapton, Skynyrd, or Mellencamp...it makes me want to hear what the next song will be. How's that for teasing a format change 2-3 times an hour? They need a lot more southern rock to have a good country/rock hybrid, if that's what they're going for.

Every since Buzz Jackson left in 2001, its been crap. Mike James didnt care enough about Rooster to program it and Gail Austin is too busy putting gag orders on other stations to program it.

Thanks for the props. Since leaving WROO, I've been in Tucson at KIIM, where the station has been nominated for an ACM Award (this year) and I've been nominated for an ACM award (medium market personality of the year, 2006) and a CMA award (medium market personality of the year, this year).

Of course, it helps to have a company that backs you up and supports you.

Actually heard them play Fleetwood Mac last night...thats streching the 'Country/Southern Rock' boundaries big time!!...And what happened to Shotgun??...Not on the website and CC is advertising an Afternoon Drive opening....................

I think Shotgun is Matt over at moving. Congrats Buzz!

Although I never worked directly for Buzz Jackson at CC-Jax, I'd work for him anywhere. He's one of the best radio people I've ever known.

I think it may be cheaper to turn the transmitter off at rooster. Have you heard it lately, i gave it a thirty minute listen today. WOW. Rooster used to be huge in the late 90's and early 2000 (thanks to buzz), soon as they put John Boy and Billy on, fired Coty White at night, and lost Dixie.. its been crap. I seriously think that Gator has a leg up on Clear Channel now and the fall book should be a good one.

You're right. The brain trust at CC Jax thought bringing JB&B to mornings and moving Robbie Rose to afternoons would be a winner. *insert laugh track here*

Talk about destroying a station's mojo. Take one of the highest visibility (and most popular) jocks out of his morning show and move him to PM drive and throw the whole station off kilter. Never made sense to me.

I surprised no one has posted this, but THIS is what's up with WROO, CC JAX IS GOING TO SELL IT........but before they do, they're going to flip it's frequency AGAIN (in case you forgot, WROO was 107.3 for 20 or more years and flipped with 93.3 PLANET RADIO)......this time it'll flip with 92.7 THE BEAT...so it'll be 92.7 THE ROOSTER and 93.3 THE BEAT......the reason, Rooster's ratings are consistently bad therefore, put it on the lowest wattage frequency Clear Channel has. You can thank [EDIT]for slowly killing THE ROOSTER.

"Yeah, they've come to snuff the Rooster..."
