Well.. the news it out there now. Donny Walker leaving radio totally to move onto other avenues.

All the best to Donny and thanks for all the great memories over the past 20 some odd years!!!

An icon? Uh.......sorry but no! A jock that was well-liked by most for a while who's act wouldn't have worked outside of Buffalo if he'd chosen to leave anywhere after 1999...yes.

When I saw the title I thought someone was talking about me :'(

Oh I'm sorry I misread the title. I thought it said idiotic broadcaster.....never mind.

Saying Goodbye To Ironic Broadcaster

Donny's a nice guy, and had a nice run, but an icon? I don't think so...

I would say after 20 + years in one market he would be somewhat of an icon... more then you guys can say that can't get a job in the market or HAD one and are currently working at a video stores... making comments on a radio boards... This was such a positive message until jackasses get on this board.. way to go!! Shows what kinda lumberjacks you are.. good work!

Icon: Dan Neaverth, John Otto, Jack Armstrong, Jay Nelson, Howie Meeker, Don Cherry, Tim Russert.

Perhaps "Buffalo CHR Legend," eh?

TE, the posts were not derogatory nor ad hominem, they simply questioned the use of the word "icon."

I think even John Harrison, being the jester he is, would have a good laugh over this discussion.

As others have said...not even close to being an icon...a favorite...yes!

Jackass...me....no! Sorry, just over 15 years currently in the biz...starting from board op/promotions and 2 markets later...programming in a similar size market to Buffalo/Rochester.

Nice assumption about "everyone" that posts here...please think before you type please!

I think "9" hit the nail on the head with his post. Nobody was being negative until Mr. Edwards' (or is it Mr. Ed?) post. Oops! I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok... ;D

There's your first mistake. All because you have had some longevity, does NOT mean you're an icon. You have to be the kind of talent that dominated, that rose above most/all others. Donny was basically a run-of-the-mill DJ during his tenure.

I applaud him for lasting 20 years at one place.

Icon? No.

Icon - Sh-mie-con.....I think most everyone on this board wants to be remembered after they have hung up their spurs for the last time.

Were any of us icons? Probably not...but it's still nice to have someone recognize you years after you left the biz.

Let this guy have his memories...he will become "an icon" to someone.

I totally Agree.. its all how people interpret a person and their broadcast techniques.. If that person made a listener crack a smile in their break, then he's done his job totally 110%
:)
