I have to issue a correction. Radiomar is salsa. Their sister Nueva Q is cumbia, and there is also its competitor Karibeña.Hundreds, online:

Those two were simulcasting in the early 90sI mean SBS could still end up buying KTHT. It would be a good idea to do an Eagle-style simulcast between 92.1 and 97.1. Interesting thing is that if SBS does put Regional Mexican on 92.1, this would be the third time 92.1 reverted to a previous format: they reverted to Top 40 (which they first did in the 80s) with Radio Now in 2017, reverted back to Praise in 2021, and now potentially Regional Mexican (remember La Mera Mera?).
Depending on where on the lake you are you can get KVST and KYKS for country and the Livingston translators even though they aren’t as strong as KTHT. KHPT seems to be the only other strong signal thereand is effectively the only non-religious English-language station that comes in on Lake Livingston.
Thanks... it's been years since I scanned the dial in Lima. Long ago, I used to love "El Ronco" on Radiomar.I have to issue a correction. Radiomar is salsa. Their sister Nueva Q is cumbia, and there is also its competitor Karibeña.
I have always had good experience with KETX. The FM translator is listenable from Corrigan down to Shepherd. Going west in 190, I've been able to hold on to it well past the lake. Not the signal that was once enjoyed from 92.3, but it covers all of Polk, and portions of each of the surrounding counties. Pretty good mix of classic rock, with several titles that Houston's Eagle has long dropped from the rotation. Was thinking more of the San Jacinto County side... KTHT, KHPT, and KEHH were the only English-language stations I could reasonably pick up out there, even on a car tuner.
Where is BamaTX with the laughter? If Bryan Broadcasting is looked at aa too small of an operator to acquire it, there's just no way Mr. Amato would make a play for KTHT at this point in his career. He actually sold his CP for Cuney a couple of years ago, which ended up being built by UT Tyler, and operates as KVUT. A non-profit and non-commercial future for 97.1, I will agree, but given the scuttle butt going around the water cooler, it sounds highly unlikely that it will be returning to Spanish language.Maybe an acquisition by New Wavo is in order for KTHT. Would be a good cross sell with KVST... well, a man can hope. 😂 It'll probably end up going to a "non-profit" and flipping to Spanish Christian.
I briefly had that thought, as the K-Star format on a simulcast would work well in the Piney Woods. But I don’t think RO will sell 97.1 to someone who will now be a direct competitor to 93Q.Maybe an acquisition by New Wavo is in order for KTHT.
But does New Wavo have the resources to service local accounts across southeast Texas? And would they want to target Houston metro? Perhaps 97.1 is too big a mouthful.Would be a good cross sell with KVST
I’ve been wondering if and when New Wavo will cash in. Is there another generation willing to run the station? If Bryan Broadcasting is looked at aa too small of an operator to acquire it, there's just no way Mr. Amato would make a play for KTHT at this point in his career.
I’m still thinking VCY America is in the mix as 97.1 is exactly the type of station they would want as it achieves a foothold in Houston and covers a huge area of southeast Texas. VCY recently entered DFW so I would think they also desire the Houston market.A non-profit and non-commercial future for 97.1, I will agree, but given the scuttle butt going around the water cooler, it sounds highly unlikely that it will be returning to Spanish language.
SBS actually used to own Spanish Religious stations. WGNK-FM "La Nueva" from Miami owned by Grupo Genesis was once simulcast on SBS' WRAZ-FM 106.3 Leisure City, but that was eventually replaced with a short-lived simulcast of SBS' Miami gold mine, Zol 106.7. WPAT-HD2 Paterson also aired a simulcast of WGNK.I don't see Spanish language for 97.1, unless it is a non-commercial religious operation (hello KHCB Spanish service.) The signal is rather deficient for effectively reaching Hispanics in metro Houston, which is likely why SBS had no interest.
I'm not laughing at that. This move would make the most sense.Where is BamaTX with the laughter?
I could see them moving the KVST format to 97.1, and letting Larry Galla run wild with classics on 99.7. Crazy speculation, though.I'm not laughing at that. This move would make the most sense.
The Amato family may actually have the resources to buy and successfully run KTHT (and not necessarily as a classic country station either). They did collect a pretty penny from the 103.7 license and the synergies are there for them to take advantage of the situation. They know the North Houston area extremely well and have established long and meaningful business relationships over the decades. While Bryan Broadcasting would be starting from zero, New Wavo would already have potential clients lined up.
If I were them, I'd strongly consider picking up KTHT and continue focusing on Montgomery and Waller counties.
It came back within the past hour. Most likely unrelated to the sale but KTHT HD and RDS is currently off.
Fantastic analysis, Mediafrog. I really enjoy reading your take on the happenings in southeast Texas. As for cashing in on KVST, I just don't know, but I am for certain that he will not be a player for KTHT. You and I are aligned in thoughts on VCY being the logical suitor for 97.1, however, that isn't the name mentioned as the party looking at adding it to their portfolio. Guess we'll all just have to wait and see what comes down the pike.I briefly had that thought, as the K-Star format on a simulcast would work well in the Piney Woods. No rumor involved in the sentence saying SBS has purchased KROI.There's a rumor going around that SBS has "purchased KTHT and KROI". One station will be Mexican Regional and the other will be Spanish Reggaeton/Tropical.

They have not purchased KTHT.
You’re late to the party 🎈
