Any source? No sh**t Sherlock! We all know SBS purchased KROI. What I'm saying is that SBS has also purchased KTHT.
Why would they buy a station that has a signal that does not cover the Houston HDHAs?No sh**t Sherlock! We all know SBS purchased KROI. What I'm saying is that SBS has also purchased KTHT.
97.1 would in fact be a worse signal for targeting hispanic listeners than the Chambers County eastern rimshots often dogged on this forum. Why would they buy a station that has a signal that does not cover the Houston HDHAs?
Yes, it is horrible in the HDHA zones (High Density Hispanic Areas) where a huge percentage of the Hispanic meters are placed.97.1 would in fact be a worse signal for targeting hispanic listeners than the Chambers County eastern rimshots often dogged on this forum.
And if it's for the Rhythmic formula instead of simulcasting KROI, it's even worse. Maybe if it reached Katyzuela where they love that kind of music, but no dice.SBS buying 97.1 would be about as good of a business decision as putting a Bluegrass station on in Laredo...
The reggaetón based format, now on two stations in LA, has higher total shares than the regional Mexican formats in 18-49. LA Hispanics are 90% Mexican / Mexican American. And if it's for the Rhythmic formula instead of simulcasting KROI, it's even worse. Maybe if it reached Katyzuela where they love that kind of music, but no dice.
I just don’t see this happening, at least in any rational way. SBS would have purchased the two stations in combination if they had interest in 97.1...unless RO wanted separate new minority operators for both but couldn’t find anyone else who would bite on KTHT.What I'm saying is that SBS has also purchased KTHT.
KROI would have been a great signal for KHCB’s Spanish service and would have allowed them to dump the horrible AM and its very limited translator. OTOH there are no other KHCB Spanish language outlets in SE Texas other than the very limited Huntsville signals, so 97.1 would greatly expand that coverage.I’m amazed KHCB isn’t going to buy it.
There are examples of accordions being used in Bluegrass music. Perhaps a new fusion of Bluegrass and Grupera/Norteña/Ranchera could be in the future?🤔😆SBS buying 97.1 would be about as good of a business decision as putting a Bluegrass station on in Laredo...
Reggaeton would be totally wrong for 97.1. The station bombed with a Churban format over 20 years ago as it could not adequately serve Houston’s urban core. The reggaetón based format, now on two stations in LA, has higher total shares than the regional Mexican formats in 18-49. LA Hispanics are 90% Mexican / Mexican American.
It would not help Salem. There would still be problems on the far west side. Now that K264CN 100.7 has gone off the air, our coverage improved a lot. That group has filed for 97.3 for a translator to broadcast KQUE AM 980.It would potentially be an upgrade for Salem’s religious format ........
I can tell you for a fact that someone has agreed to terms acquire KTHT already pending a site inspection and finalizing contracts. Will be a few weeks before its announced, but the deal is for all intents done. Can't say who's buying, but multiple bidders did want it, it won't be going into a trust and they won't be stuck with it for awhile.I’m telling y’all. RO will have to put 97.1 into a trust. They know no one wants it. They’re stuck with it for awhile. Can they still package 97.1/93Q for sales if one station is in a trust? If so, thats the best possible outcome
It covers more than 2,700,000 with a 60 dBu signal, which is larger than all but the 19 biggest radio markets. Of course there would be a lot of interest. I’m sure they have already fielded many inquiries.I’m telling y’all. RO will have to put 97.1 into a trust. They know no one wants it. They’re stuck with it for awhile. So now that KTHT and KROI have buyers, the whole Sugarland Station Trust plan isn't going through before the sales close?I can tell you for a fact that someone has agreed to terms acquire KTHT already pending a site inspection and finalizing contracts. It will not be needed. It was there in case a buyer wasn't found to ensure the primary Radio-One/Cox deal went off without any further regulatory delays. So now that KTHT and KROI have buyers, the whole Sugarland Station Trust plan isn't going through before the sales close?
KTHT will not be a non-comm.Sounds like it'll be going to a non-comm... just hope it's at least an English broadcaster!
Are you hinting at a 97.1 The Fish swimming into Houston?KTHT will not be a non-comm.
KTHT will not be a non-comm.
I don’t think that’s what Chuck is hinting at all.Are you hinting at a 97.1 The Fish swimming into Houston?
I mean, KROI being Regional Mexican as 92.1 La Ley to try and slap La Raza and the former Estereo Latino in the face (though LaLey921.com has already been taken by WAFZ, and with Raúl Brindis being well established in Houston making it be a scary choice for KROI to go Regional Mexican) and KTHT being Rítmo 97.1 to nab Latino Mix listeners while Univision comes up with a way to keep 102.9, the heart and soul of Uforia Houston safe from the second Regional Mexican KROI (this time being backed by the rapidly growing SBS, getting back into it's prime) seems like a pretty good idea if 97.1 actually hit the Latino spots of H-Town.There's a rumor going around that SBS has "purchased KTHT and KROI". One station will be Mexican Regional and the other will be Spanish Reggaeton/Tropical.
