SBS Buys KROI for $7.5 million

Any word on studio plans? Does Radio One still have all off the space they had when News 92 was around, or has that long since been sublet?

If the former, would seem like they could get out of the Cox facilities sooner rather than later.
Why not get out of the Radio One facility?

Guess it comes down to cost. Is it cheaper to move The Eagle and 93Q into the current RO facility, or move Majic and The Box into the existing Cox setup?

Also leaving room for a possible fifth format, should The Eagle simulcast be split.

The more important reasons would be the amount of rent they are paying and when each lease ends.

There is no financial benefit to splitting the Eagle simulcast. The signals need to be paired to be relevant across the market.

The new stations will move into the current radio one studios.
i've heard it is actually the other way around with Radio One moving into the Cox space.

Lance is correct. Urban One is moving into the Cox space. KROI will stay in place as SBS will take over that part of the space.

That would allow SBS some space for growth. I’m looking at you, La Raza and El Norte.

Now if we only knew where KTHT will wind up…🤫
I actually wonder if SBS would actually buy out Estrella's radio properties outright, including the LA ones. It would not put them over the limit in Los Angeles, given they sold KWIZ-FM and KRQB is licensed to the San Bernardino market.

That just leaves the issue of the Dallas stations being rimshots, but those at least cover the north side of Dallas where the population is growing and I doubt anything better will ever be sold.

SBS learned about 20 years ago not to buy Class A FMs, rimshots or limited signals of any kind. They sold an A in Los Angeles, so why would they want to buy several more? The Dallas and Houston operations are exactly what they got rid of years ago.

SBS has the same management now as it did then, and it is very unlikely that they would buy the Estrella stations.

Where KTHT winds up continues to be great speculation. It certainly is being kept a secret. Perhaps there are other interested parties that are trying for that signal. Maybe it's not settled. It could be an independent broadcaster or a big group. We'll just have to speculate until the big reveal.

I was told again yesterday, it is positively a 100% done deal. Simply a matter of filing.

Despite the recent bad press, it would not shock me if Audacy is the buyer of 97.1. For a company of its size, $5MM or thereabouts is not *that* much money in spite of their ongoing cash flow leverage challenges.

An EMF purchase also wouldn't surprise me. Perhaps the delay is due to their need to strike a deal with the local rights holder of the K-Love trademark.

Interesting. They could change to calls to Classic Country KIKK-FM and jettison KIKK 650. However, if they have already met their market limits, they may not be able to do that. Of course, Lance Venta says it's already a done deal. I heard somebody else threw their hat in the ring at the last minute. At least we're not talking about translators, HDs and LPs.....for the moment.

Very doubtful, unless Audacy really, really wants an FM outlet to simulcast 610 after missing out on 92.1, which would have been an excellent solution, likely driving a stake in the heart of 97.5.

You would think EMF would have made a big play for KROI were they wanting to get K-Love in the market. Of course, if SBS bombs we could be talking about another sale and flip of 92.1...:rolleyes:

Hope Media Group would not shock me, but again, doubtful. Still thinking VCY America if 97.1 is to go religious.

Intriguing idea that would resonate well in the 97.1 coverage area. But as discussed earlier there is virtually no chance that RO would sell to a competitor of 93Q that could, in Audacy's case, use 97.1 as a flanker to 100.3. And it has been discussed before that Country Legends billed very poorly.

Agree that Audacy should get rid of 650 and let it spend its remaining days as brokered religion/ethnic before being sent to the scrap heap.
However, if they have already met their market limits, they may not be able to do that.
Audacy has room for one more FM.

True, although note the chatter about the possible demise of La Grande 104.5 if SBS goes with Regional Mexican on 92.1. What would be next on that translator?

They already have the terms of the "deal" going back to when they licensed usage in Los Angeles.

I can’t imagine Audacy buying a new property, when they can barely keep the lights on as it is.

I’m fully expecting KTHT to go to one of these shady “non profit” operations like Centro Cristiano and can only imagine what kind of shenanigans they’d do with a full power FM… like trying to run the signal at 1 megawatt ERP, with 9 HD sub channels to “legally” feed their translators.

I’m sure Lance Venta, who apparently knows (but is not yet at liberty to reveal) who the new KTHT owner is, must be highly amused by all our speculation as to who will wind up with 97.1.🤪

That's a funny thought. I haven't heard where KTHT is heading but VCY seems to be the most likely to me.

There is no way KTHT is going to Centro Cristiano. I still expect it will be in excess of 5 million which is going to eliminate many potentially interested buyers.

Also I would put the possibility of iHeart, Audacy, Univsion, etc, at nearly 0.
