Music mix sounds great. Imaging sucks.
it is the standard imaging they use in regional (The voice of Juan Carlos Hidalgo) who also serves as regional PD for this format. The imaging won't change.Music mix sounds great. Imaging sucks.
You weren't the only one to speculate this either. The moment Raul Brindis' contract ended, the question was asked about RB potentially becoming the anchor for SBS' operations in Houston.
This is one of the weirdest quirks of the station's imaging. Is this how SBS operates elsewhere? The need for Alarcón to have his name mentioned at the TOTH seems unorthodox.
If every Regional Mexican station decides it fits the format, then you play that song. How many songs get played on country radio despite their dubious country status? If I had to make the call, I'd make Norteño music the foundation of the station and then add mainstream regional mexican acts/songs. Karol G's "Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido" is where I think KROI crosses the line. Rhythmically speaking, it's just different than the rest of the playlist. It sounds closer to reggaeton than to a Mexican cumbia. I could be wrong, but it just doesn't seem like a fit.
EXCEPT for WSKQ-FM.SBS does this in all of their stations.
It's not even supposed to be Mexican Cumbia in the first place. It's a pop-friendly Merengue song. Doesn't fit KROI, belongs on WSKQ, KXOL, WPAT and the El Zol trio in Florida.Karol G's "Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido" is where I think KROI crosses the line. Though was that the Karol G song in question? The cumbia song she did so was "Mi Ex Tenía Razón", and that did get play in Regional Mexican stations. It's not even supposed to be Mexican Cumbia in the first place. I've heard both "Mi Ex Tenía Razón" and "Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido" on KROI. I understand the former, but not the latter.Though was that the Karol G song in question? The cumbia song she did so was "Mi Ex Tenía Razón", and that did get play in Regional Mexican stations.
I don't think "Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido" fits either, but it's getting a lot of airplay on the TelevisaUnivision Regional Mexican stations, including KLTN.I've heard both "Mi Ex Tenía Razón" and "Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido" on KROI. I understand the former, but not the latter.
Sometimes songs "cross over" to many different genres or formats. It's great for the artist when it happens, expands her fan base.I don't think "Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido" fits either, but it's getting a lot of airplay on the TelevisaUnivision Regional Mexican stations, including KLTN.
Who could ever forget this banger that crossed over several languages...Sometimes songs "cross over" to many different genres or formats. It's great for the artist when it happens, expands her fan base.
I don't think that one got played on KILT, let alone KLTN!Who could ever forget this banger that crossed over several languages...
Even Don Cheto made a song in Spanish.Who could ever forget this banger that crossed over several languages...

Brindis has never been successful outside of Houston… and to some extent, the LRGV. They can try to syndicate him elsewhere, but the results will be the same. This is a 90’s morning show 25 years too late to succeed in other markets.Yes, and no. Juan Carlos is planning to retire next year, so Elena Jovel will be hands-on with this operation. We can expect changes to start as soon as Brindis hits the airwaves. It will be about 3-5 Months before Brindis can start syndicating his show. Multiple markets are ready to make changes and add him to the mornings.
Wasn't he on KROM for a while? Was he unsuccessful in SA?Brindis has never been successful outside of Houston… and to some extent, the LRGV.
Moderately successful when KROM had no significant competitor.Wasn't he on KROM for a while? Was he unsuccessful in SA?
