SBS Buys KROI for $7.5 million

There were still doubts about Raúl Brindis, given his less than stellar ratings as of late and the fact that SBS already had a successful national morning show for Regional Mexican, Al Aire con el Terrible.

If every Regional Mexican station decides it fits the format, then you play that song. How many songs get played on country radio despite their dubious country status?

It's not even supposed to be Mexican Cumbia in the first place. It's a pop-friendly Merengue song. Doesn't fit KROI, belongs on WSKQ, KXOL, WPAT and the El Zol trio in Florida.

Though was that the Karol G song in question? The cumbia song she did so was "Mi Ex Tenía Razón", and that did get play in Regional Mexican stations.

Sometimes songs "cross over" to many different genres or formats. It's great for the artist when it happens, expands her fan base.
 
It is widely understood that the claim of playing 50,000 songs consecutively is merely a marketing gimmick and not a literal representation. The music selection reflects a Hot AC format, with a mix of currents, recurrents, and even some gold tracks being played repeatedly.
The station's imaging is resembling what is aired on KLAX La Raza, WLEY-FM La Ley Chicago, and KRZZ San Francisco. However, Juan Carlos Hidalgo will remain in charge of overseeing the entire Houston market, irrespective of who handles the station's programming.
 
Yes, and no. Juan Carlos is planning to retire next year, so Elena Jovel will be hands-on with this operation. We can expect changes to start as soon as Brindis hits the airwaves. It will be about 3-5 Months before Brindis can start syndicating his show. Multiple markets are ready to make changes and add him to the mornings.

Brindis has never been successful outside of Houston… and to some extent, the LRGV. They can try to syndicate him elsewhere, but the results will be the same. This is a 90’s morning show 25 years too late to succeed in other markets.
