SBS Proclaims Its Two Stations Lead The LA Hispanic Market

I am frequently seeing ads on InsideRadio.com that hawk the ratings success of SBS in Los Angeles. The ad says that among Hispanic Adults 18-49, its two stations are tied for first place in Spanish language radio...

96.3 KXOL (SBS) Mega....6.5

97.9 KLAX (SBS) La Raza....6.5

107.5 KLVE (Univision) K-Love....5.3

97.5 KLYY (Entravision) José....4.8

94.3/105.5 KBUE (Liberman) Que Buena....4.0

103.9 KRCD (Univision) Recuerdo....3.9

101.9 KSCA (Univision) ZonaMX....3.8

93.9 KXOS (Muruelo) Cali...2.4 *

103.1 KDLD (Entravision) Super Estrella....1.0

96.7 KWIZ (Liberman) La Ranchera....0.9

* KXOS recently flipped to a Rhythmic Hispanic/Reggaeton format as KLLI.

And now, in that demo, KXOL dropped by half to KLLI and KLVE is back in the lead

Similarly, Univision and iHeart lead in Spanish in Miami, and Univision has three ahead of SBS in Chicago.

Stations that brag about numbers should be able to sustain them.

It reminds me that for years and years when WABC was the leading station in NYC, it never talked about ratings. Then when it started getting challenged by WBLS and WKTU, it suddenly started bragging about being #1... and a few months later, it was no longer #1.

I was surprised to see KLAX so high. Usually it is in the middle of the pack. Also surprised to see KSCA so low. And stations without full Class B Los Angeles signals seem to be doing well, despite their disadvantages, KLYY (main transmitter in Lake Arrowhead with a Class A in Arcadia), KBUA (using three Class As) and KRCD (using two Class As).

Also surprised to see two oldies stations in these listing for 18-49 listeners... KRCD and KWIZ. You'd think their playlists would be too old for the 18-49 audience. I guess those two, plus 980 KFWB, all play classic Regional Mexican music.
