Okay, if we can dream:

Charlotte--Relax 102.9 from 1987-89
106.1 FM the way WAVO sounds now
96.9 FM the way WAME sounds now
Fayetteville/Florence--WIOZ at 106.9 FM as it sounded in the early 90s
102.5 FM and 102.3 FM WIOZ-AM as it sounded in 2006-07
WGFG 100.1 as it sounded in 1986
Myrtle Beach/Charleston Joy 92 as it sounded in the early 1980s
99.7 FM WNCK as it sounded in 1994 (and move 99.5 to Wilmington)
103.1 Big Yak with the songs they played back then
Greenville/Asheville WMIT 106.9 the way WPTL sounds now
WMUU 94.5 the way it sounds now
WLOS 99.9 the way it sounded in the 1980s
WQNS 104.9 the way WMXF sounded from 2000 to 2007

And to heck with all the other dial positions

Yes, If we can only dream:

Hilton Head/SAV:

88.1: SCAD Radio (they deserved that station, but that's a looong story...)
88.7: ETV Classical
89.5: GPB Talk (my imagination, I know)
89.9: ETV Talk
90.3: as-is
91.1: GPB Classical
91.9: as-is
92.3: Blu 92-3...like a cross between all 80's and the Movin' format
93.1: as-is
94.1: as-is
95.5: as-is
96.5: as-is
97.3: Needs a CHR makeover. It's stale.
98.3: Put the station in mono and flip it to talk. HUGE SIGNAL and they could still call themselves "Georgia's BIG 98"
98.7: as-is
99.1: Somebody should sign this CP on and put talk or modern rock on it. Decent rimshot to both markets.
100.1: Locally programmed gospel music.
101.1: as-is
102.1: Full-blown, in your face CHR. Or just go lite AC and blow 107.9 out.
103.1: ESPN Radio 103.1/1130 The Lowcountry and Coastal Empire's Sports Leader. Maybe AAA
103.9: as-is-
104.7: Would simulcast with 104.9/HHI
104.9: as-is
105.3: Too heritage to blow up. I'd morph it into a AAA/Progressive Rocker
106.1: as-is
106.9: Another possibility is to blow up the iffy format on here, drop oldies onto this signal, and blow the local guys on 104.9 out of the water
107.9: AAA Wave 107-9

Forgot one!

Put classical music on WKVC. Shame on S.C. Educational Radio for depriving Myrtle Beach of classical music.

I wouldn't move K-Love anywhere new, but if it had to go somewhere ... a commercial frequency. How about 107.1 since it never stays in one format for long.l

This has been my head-scratcher of the century. Although I KNOW SCERN has two networks (and should be commended for being one of the first in the US with the two schedules)...I would have thought ETV would have been all over HD technology. At WJWJ-FM down here, the "first" of the new ETV radio stations, I could see a classical HD2 and maybe "Carolina's Jazz" on HD3. Or do what WJCT in Jacksonville does and put local NOAA weather radio on HD3.

Now maybe I'm lucky, but I get jazz from 90.3 WHCJ Savannah, Classical (in spotty HD!) from WSVH (now out in Pembroke, GA). I'd just like to pick up more than a spotty signal for some of the music shows I now have to whip out the fancy equipment and pick up off of 89.3/Chucktown.

I'm sure the same thing goes in MYB. Spotty signal from WHQR in Wilmington, iffy signal from WSCI Charleston, and we are pretty much stuck with the announcerless "ETV Radio" from Columbia.

I commend them for having 2-3 different programs, but I'm paying 'em good tax and donation money...figure something out about it!!!

(Who is still happy to live in an area with NPR talk...my hometown of Richmond, VA JUST got a NPR talk translator)

ETV didn't have the budget or the desire to figure out what to do with HD radio. They've just now implemented RDS.

When PFTP and CPB was doling out money for HD upgrades, ETV Radio had a number of pressing needs for upgrades to their analog transmission system. For example, Rock Hill needed a new antenna and transmitter.

Almost all the digital funds went to the DTV transition. ETV's multicast DTV is a fantastic service.

Radio is still originating from almost 20 year old studios and is automated using circa 1995 Arrakis Digilinks.

Agreed. I love ETV. IMO, one of the south's best PBS affiliates.

It just seems like ETV radio is lacking significantly. The split network is brilliant given the fact the ETV Radio no longer really serves its "Educational" purpose. It just seems they're the last NPR group in these neck of the woods to go HD. Hell, they helped to design Mississippi Public Radio/ METV and they seem to be well ahead of SCETV.

It's almost as if the radio side of things just gave up on innovation 10+ years ago. Sad, because I like NPR and donate to ETV. But I find myself listening to other NPR stations on the net more and more these days...

So, my ideal SC dream dial would be

Classical ETV:
HD1: Classical ETV
HD2: ETV News/Talk
HD3: Maybe a local "community access" channel? Don't most of these ETV stations still have local studios? If not, why not "Carolina's Jazz" or do like WJCT-FM and relay local NOAA Radio. Maybe WXRY?

Just reverse the two HD's for the other News/Talk stations. This would give all of SC all of ETV Radio's offerings.

(PS: I've dealt with old Arrakis automation, all of which have blown parts of a body I can't mention without getting fined :)
