SC DX Tuesday morning 6/30

Not much to report here, except for a couple of class A signals from 125 miles+. Also, picked up a few stations within 175 miles that are usually blown out by the local Class Cs. Total of 6 new logs this morning. Not bad, but DXing is tough here in the Myrtle Beach area. Might head to the ocean later today.

What stations? I wonder which ones you got in the Myrtle Beach area. I was in Bluffton last week, and I was picking up WAPE over the much closer 95.1 from Charleston, and all of the Charleston FMs were coming in, along with WYAV from Myrtle Beach, and even Double Q and WGNI from Wilmington.

Those stations are locals in the Myrtle Beach area, you know, and I pick them up in the Charleston area often.

Sent you my Tuesday log. It's in your private message inbox.

I picked up a station from the Myrtle Beach area all the way in NJ 2 months ago on tropo.

When I worked for Qantum/Myrtle Beach in 2004-05, I received at least 6 letters from DXers who logged our CHR station, WWXM - Mix 97.7.

Just got a few CO/WY stations over e-skip, including KRMA TV6 Denver, CO with the nightlight loop.

Tuesday morning here in Poughkeepsie, NY brought some surprise DX as I was driving to work. At 7:45am, I punched in 94.9 and there was BERMUDA Power 95 loud and clear. I listened for the next 10 minutes on the way in to work... there was some fading, but no other station dominated. Very unusual to get skip here that early in the day. First Bermuda for me.

Tuesday evenuing there was a big opening in the northern part of the US. I had antenna problems, so I only got 2 new logs: "The Bee" WUPZ-94.9 from Michigan with Top 40, and "WRJ-Oldies" Eagle River, WI. There was a LOT of activity on TV, especially channel 2, with apparently several Canadians mixing together. Also, I did get a pretty clear picture from WJMN channel 3 from Michigan with just rabbit ears, with their "nightlight" service. I don't keep a log on analog TV, but I do like tuning around for DX.

June has been really active with E-Skip for TV and FM, especially starting June 12, which just happend to be the last day of regular analog TV. May had been disappointingly dead. This is now the height of the FM/TV DX season, so I expect several more good openings in the coming weeks. I had expected VHF TV DX (ch 2-6) to fizzle after June 12... but it's been really good, with some Cubans, a lot of Canadians, Florida, Louisiana Michigan and other "night lights". I kind of wish I had a regular channel 2-6 antenna. But FM (and now digital UHF TV) are what I really concentrate on.

I know I had some eskip in Ohio but couldn't ID any of it. On 92.7 I had an old preacher with a female talking about the founding fathers. I know I had at least two stations on 92.5 other than Cincy's Fox and Toledo's Kiss, but nothing identifiable. I heard one mention of Canada Day.
