"Apex and NextMedia will be exchanging two frequencies in South Carolina: Apex will spin alternative WAVF (96 Wave)/Charleston over to NextMedia and, in exchange, will pick up NextMedia's active rock WKZQ/Myrtle Beach. WAVF will be heard on 101.7, and WKZQ will air on 96.1."


This will make Wave pretty much unlistenable in the Savannah area.
 
I don't think they are moving the stations. They are just exchanging one for the other. Kinda like trading your Jeep Wrangler with your buddy for his Ford Ranger.

Great...now Savannah radio is truly unlistenable. At least you could pick up 96 Wave around town most of the time.

Staid mediocrity wins again.

I wish someone would program a decent alternative here. One day, perhaps. Until then, we can dream...
 
OK...don't despair...things could work out for the best...

1) It sounds like WAVF (format and all) will move to 101.7. The proposed signal is a monster! It's on the WCSC tower with the same height/power as WAVF's CP was on 96.1. That should make the signal a bit better in Savannah. Right now theyre 100kW at 700 ft...their new tower will be about 10 miles north but will be 1000 ft higher!!!

Basically, 101.7 in Charleston will be owned by Apex, along with the new move-in on 95.9. It's possible WAVF might go to that peashooter of a signal on 95.9 as well...who knows?

NextMedia gets 96.1 in Myrtle Beach...while this is TECHNICALLY WAVF, it's basically a move-in.

so...

Charleston:
95.9 Apex (former WWBD)
101.7 Apex (former WKZQ)

Myrtle Beach
96.1 NextMedia (former WAVF)

I think the Claxton FM's app for Charleston is dead. WMGL already has a CP to move to 107.3 as a C3 and has put in an app for a C2. All they have to do is wait for WNKT to move to Columbia.

Hmmm

After closely examining the Charleston "scenario", it looks like some "spoilery" is afoot. Here's what we know:

WNKT (at 107.5) has to move to Eastover and downgrade to a C2 in order to clear the way for WMGL to move from 101.7 to 107.3 (and upgrade to C2)...

WMGL has to move from 101.7 to 107.3 in order to clear the way for WKZQ (now on 101.7) to move from Myrtle Beach to Hanahan (on 101.7)...

WAVF (at 96.1) has to move from Hanahan to Forestbrook in order to clear the way for WWBD (now on 95.7) to move from Bamberg to Isle Of Palms (on 95.9, upgraded to C2)...

Bottom line...all of this is a facility improvement scenario for Apex, and a wallet fattening scenario for Citadel and NextMedia, and a "I don't have the faintest idea what the deal is" scenario for Miller.

Now then...as another caller mentioned, the WMCD move from Claxton to Sullivans Island is mutually exclusive with the WMGL proposal, which makes it also essentially MX'd with the WKZQ/WAVF/WWBD proposals.

The WMCD application (engineering portion) was prepared by Don Lynch. Listen carefully, now...Don Lynch is on the staff of American Media Services, the "Move-In Specialists". Friends and neighbors, the AMS logo appears in the dictionary beside the phrases "check and re-check" and "anal retentive". They know what they're doing, and they're not going to be associated with the filing of a "known to be faulty" application with the Commission. I'll predict that much money (or consideration) is gonna change hands, before this thing is done and done. Of course, as everybody knows, I'm stark-raving mad (or is it mad-raving stark?), and don't have a clue.

On the other hand, we may once again be seeing Sebatian Cabbot in reruns of Checkmate (on most of these CBS stations)!
 
So, this basically means that:

1. AMS knows something the general radio public doesn't about the SC swap.
2. AMS is human and made a mistake
3. AMS is perfect and somebody didn't file the application on time
4. Perhaps somebody in the Charleston market will pay off and pay up to Georgia Eagle for 107.3

I also forgot AMS is based in Charleston...so they probably know something big about all of this.
