Scary jingles

At one point....in the 60s, IIRC....WMAQ in Chicago had a local news sounder that sounded to me like a malfunctioning alarm clock. It was actually the opening notes of Henry Mancini's "March of the Cue Balls". A cool (if slightly weird) instrumental with an odd pulsating beginning.

There's an interview on historyofwowo.com with Bob Oakes (former Group W PD nationally and for KFWB) where he describes the creation of the news boom, and I think he mentions "March Of The Cueballs", along with a stinger used in the movie "Ice Station Zebra", and one from the old movie "Laura".

I know Airchexx.com has a WNBC aircheck from 1976 where there's a jingle near the beginning that's absolutely terrifying. It was sung very slowly and in an ominous tone.
