Scattered thoughts on PRO-FM tonight 8-9PM

Just had the station as I do at times just to sample what's happening with the format. I know I'm in the minority in liking their tendency not to skew urban, but Citadel Providence does have Hot 106.

(1) Big Doug is on & he sounds good. I don't know if he's permanent or even tracked as he's pretty much sticking with liners but he has the voice & the energy & if he's new to the shift, hopefully once he settles in Tony will let him turn on the personality. I was impressed with what he sounds like at this point.

(2) Heard an amber alert for the first time ever on any station. Did any other Providence station run it?

(3) Heard a spot for a gay night club. I don't know why that surprised me. I guess you would have to run copy specifying gay/bi or the spot wouldn't serve any purpose. Maybe I just wasn't expecting it on PRO-FM.

(4) Then again, they're playing Don't Mess With My Heart rather than Don't Phfunk With My Heart & I really don't understand the point of that. I know the original is a play on words but there have been countless songs over the years with the word funk in their lyrics. I don't see why Black Eyed Peas even gave in & released a version with alternate lyrics since if they hadn't, I'm willing to bet airplay wouldn't have suffered.

Happy phfourth. Don't phfunk with the phfireworks.
Edited by Runrigger on 07/01/05 01:43 AM.

Now this I have to hear.It was my understanding he was voice-tracking the overnight shift.Frankly I have never heard him on anything but traffic reports so I'll reserve opinion.I wouldn't read much into hearing a new voice on PRO FM nights as that shift on the station has become irrevelant.
