Schilling provides comments for cash on WEEI

I'm just curious about any comments people have on this topic. Curt Schilling appears on "Dennis and Callahan" each Tuesday morning, and in return EEI gives money to Schilling's ALS foundation(which I have no problem with)Besides Schilling I have seen reports that Red Sox closer Keith Foulke had a car bought for him to appear on "Dale and Holly". On top of this the weekly guests that don't receive gifts (Terry Francona and Larry Lucchino)usually get a "free pass too.

Tito Francona has had some tiffs with Michael Holley, but otherwise Dale Arnold has made a religion of kissing his butt on a daily basis.

WEEI has Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino on each Thursday. Although I don't think he receives anything, Gerry Callahan's butt kissing to him is pretty pathetic. This is the paragraph on Lucchino from John Molori's Media Blitz

"WEEI’s Gerry Callahan has gone overboard in his immense love for Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino. This past week, a caller asked Lucchino whether the Red Sox got value in acquiring Edgar Renteria and David Wells. It was a good question. When the caller mentioned salary numbers, Callahan yelled, “(Lucchino) knows the contract!” When the caller discussed player performance, Callahan again interrupted and yelled, “(Lucchino) knows the statistics!” Callahan then screamed, “What’s the question?” Callahan’s constant coddling of Lucchino is embarrassing and it’s pretty sad when a show’s listeners ask tougher questions than the hosts."

By the way this article doesn't do this exchange justice. However Gerry Callahan treating his listeners like a medieval king to his peasants is nothing new...
Just looking for any thought about this from people

speaking of Callahan... I didn't hear it, having boycotted D&C for months, but apparently they questioned Lucchino about the "Q_ueer Eye Guy" thing and one of the guys throwing out the first ball... Callahan worried about kids seeing an openly gay person doing it..

more homophobia... what else is new.

The RS are the engine that makes WEEI go.I don't think there is a area where the hosts would not go per se, but BoSox are by far, the most valuable property in NE broadcasting. They are going to be treated accordingly by the station.

They all receive something. That's the way the business works.
Most times these regular appearances are brought to you by a
specific sponsor. It's just another opportunity for a station to
sell time for a specific programming element. Kind of like a sports flash
or a traffic report. By the way, of all the Sox players and management
doing radio appearances, Theo gets the biggest chunk of change on the
Sox pre-game show.
______________
"I am walkin' here!!!"

Yes, I am a radio sales weasel but there would
be no programming if it wasn't for loooong commercial breaks. Remmeber that!

I don't think dale kisses terry's butt at all...i think he happens to agree with most of the uys decisions, and the ones he doesn't, he tries to get terry to explain what he was thinking. i actually think he is very astute, and a good interviewer. dalle and holley are definitly getting bette,r but maybe im just getting used to a show minus neumy's stats

The thread about that specific homophobia - John DePetro sneering about "Gay Day"
at Fenway Park, was deleted from this board.

By the way, Grade A guest Curt Schilling was on my program - and he did it out of the kindness of his heart.
