Schnitt Beats Hannity... yeah, sure!

Todd Schnitt, a local yokel talker heard on a whole 4 Clear Channel stations, announced today that he'd no longer be heard in San Antonio (WOAI, I think) because the station big shot is a friend of Hannity.

Then Schnitt went on to boast that "I beat Hannity's ass in Miami (WIOD) and Tampa" (where he originates at WFLA). If you're not in the Miami market, you have no idea what a crock this is.

Which brings me to my point. Schnitt is CC's fair haired boy, in the hot 3 PM slot. His boast may be true but meaningless.

WIOD delays Hannity way past drive time so he gets no live calls from WIOD listeners. On WIOD, Hannity starts at 7 PM and his last hour on WIOD is competing with his Fox TV show. Doomed to failure at this station. What Hannity fan would listen unless away from home or without cable?

So on that basis, Schnitt beating Hannity (on a four-hour delay) in Miami is about as significant as Howard Stern beating The Mickey Mouse Club.

He does go head to head with Hannity in Tampa and beat him.

Of course, he is on Tampa's heritage news-talker from the 1980s, while Hannity is on a smaller station that has to power down during his show in November and December, has only been in the format for about four years, is underpromoted, has no in-house local news and little local content outside morning drive, and whose timid ownership is nowhere near as skilled in building up a station as Jacor was with WFLA in the 80s and most of the 90s. It's kind of like Cartman running against the contestants in the Special Olympics.

Oh, and Schnitt made Hannity his "Colmes" on the Schiavo issue.

Because Schnitt had been following the case for almost ten years (it is local to his Tampa market), he knew all of Hannity's talking points and blew them out of the water almost as soon as Hannity uttered them, such as the bogus statements from nurses, the "Nobel nominated" doctor (listed on Quackwatch) who said Terri could be helped, etc. He even played a clip of Hannity (talking on a clean satellite feed for his TV show) coaching a nurse what to say. Schnitt was just about the only conservative talk host that the relatives of the husband AND of the parents felt comfortable in calling. He was evenhanded and knowledgable and just made Hannity, who came down to Tampa for his radio and TV shows, look like he was slipping on a banana peel.

Yes, Schnitt did seem knowledgeable about the case. Thanks for the explanation.

If by 4 you mean 3. Which is now 2. Looks like the Schnitt Show will soon die out.

You're right. His web site just shows WIOD and WFLA.

I heard him say that as well, but he's still on WOAI as of yesterday, and he's still on WOAI's web site.

Frankly I find Schnitt about a million times more entertaining and interesting than Hannity, and glad I discovered him on my last trip to Texas.

Nah....

From 2nd Annual Radio Awards South Florida Radio News, 12/2004 Edition:

Most Obnoxious Use of Sound Effects ... Clear Channel's talker Todd Schnitt, heard locally on WIOD (610) and amazingly on three other CC stations. If you're listening and you hear his buzzer, you might as well grab a snack and then hit the bathroom or walk around the block; you won't miss a thing and he'll be buzzing for the 200th time when you get back. (Does he really think this is entertaining?)

Are you citing your own made up awards as a source?

What is the full story on Schnitt/WOAI?

No, I was paraphrasing what Schnitt said himself.

THEN I quoted my a few sentences from the 2nd Annual Radio Awards on The South Florida Radio Pages (established in 1995) to state why he's not as good as Hannity, IMHO.

Or don't you think I'm entitled to my own opinion?

> What is the full story on Schnitt/WOAI?

I merely repeated what he said on Friday's show. If you don't believe me, look at Schnitt's web site.

If you're so much smarter than other people who disagree with you, I'm sure you can find it yourself.

We are all entitled to our opinions, which is why I wonder why you are going to such lengths to dispute the validity of mine.

Relax, tough guy. I thought you might have some more information on the subject. I have looked at Schitt's site - the WOAI link is gone. Look at the WOAI site - he's still there, and they're still running his show.

Maybe someone with less of an attitude problem can clear up the confusion.
