School cancellations

In a fraction of the time it took to hear them I was able to go to turnto10.com and view the same school cancellations in the same alphabetical order I heard them on WPRO this morning.Is it time to put this time-honored radio tradition to rest considering how long it takes to run them down every half hour compared to how little news ends up getting delivered in such abbreviated fashion?

I really think we have to realize not only with school cancellations but in other areas that too much of what is on the radio is a needless rundown of what people already know considering the resources available to them.Radio still has not learned this or refuses to accept it.

I clearly understand what your talking about.I don't think it will stop anytime soon.Keep in mind it's good PR for the station if they do cancellations.

2 nd Not everyone has a computer

I guess they could put on a TV.They all shrink thier pictures and have storm canncelations on the bottom of the screen.
 
It's even worse if the same cancellations are repeated throughout the morning. WCBS/New York quickly mentions new cancellations as they come in and directs listeners to its web site for the complete list. So they reduce the clutter on air and generate traffic on their web site at the same time.
 
Instead of going to WJAR's website, why not Turn Away From 10, and go to WPRI's website? The station provides the best coverage of winter storms. As I mentioned on the New England TV board, WPRI outshined the competition in covering this past weekend's storm. WJAR laid a huge egg once again. I would like to suggest that you Turn Away From 10...and try viewing the better station's website...that station would be Channel 12.

Next you'll say Channel 50 (telemundo affiliate) does a better job.
