SCOOP - Bob not really sick - Spring stunt

1) bob sounds like clay aiken on this phone call. weird.

2) Anyone that thinks that randi could sustain a morning show is a retard. just horrid.

Do you think it's an embarassing operation, like colo-rectal or something?

Doesn't everyone think it is odd that this is happening during sweeps month? So much hype about Monday's phone call then the hype for this coming Friday with Bob telling what happened. Just seems odd that this is happening when stations are in sweeps for ratings.

Personally, I think Bob and the Showgram has gone about as far as it can go. Just seems like they need something fresh.

Is the showgram still number one? I heard they slipped a little over the past two years, but just a little. Maybe they're a bit tired, maybe not, but I'd be surprised regardless If their ratings fell because 1) It's not a bad show and 2) considering the non-existent competition, there's absolutely nothing else in Raleigh.

Who's filling in for afternoons now? Sounds okay. Are they live? At least late last year they had live jocks in all dayparts except overnights, and I think they have overnights live on weekends but I don't know.

Love the stunt talk....if any of you know Bob, it's killing him to not be on the air.
Trust me, having him off for weeks is not any way to get numbers....the teases
certainly keep the show top of mind, which should balance the ratings. I loved
working with Bob, probably one of my favorite experiences as a PD.

As for slipping, the Showgram is actually performing better than when I left
a few years ago. The new co-host has probably helped bring the fun factor
back. Winter book - #1 12+, #2 18-34 Persons (behind the hispanic station
(hello, weighting), #1 25-54 Persons with a 2-3 share lead.

I'm guessing things are pretty okay with the show's ratings.

I'm honestly glad to hear it! There's always been a style to that show and especially Bob that's always been unique; the new additions to the show are also really good.

And, glad to see they're still number one. I'd heard that Bill and Sheri won a couple of demos over them, and i'm really glad to hear that listeners around Raleigh still have taste.

Word out of Smoketree is that Bob Dumas is not having surgery, but he will be back in a few weeks a changed man on a new radio station. Look for Bob to transition away from the Showgram over to WRDU - The Rooster in mornings replacing the failed JB&B experiment. Word is the front-runner for his co-host position is former Miss North Carolina Brook McLaurin. Randi West to stay in AM drive on G.

You must feel like a stupid and ignorant fool. Shame on you.

I can't believe that intellegent people on here actually believed him. Right. Bob is going to ditch a top morning show for an "experiment" morning show. Let alone it being with Mike's girlfriend.. Seriously. Attention whore.

This is some very funny stuff. Since both my and Stench's latest postings were both deleted by the RIPolice I want to choose my words with care. I guess we are now officially part of the "Attention Whore" thread.

Not that accuracy matters here but the Showgram hasn't been regular #1 with adults for a couple of years now. I believe that honor has belonged to Mike Wheless and the WQDR team. Can anyone verify?

"Schmidthead" answered your question already. See above. No mention of WQDR.

And, I'm guessing that a former PD would have more information than half the stuff around. If there's 99% B/S around on these boards as you claim then I wouldn't expect reliable answers from most of the people on here. But, I think you already have one. Again, see above.

Are you done, yet?

Not quite. Rick is an old friend, but in this case he's wrong (according to another old friend who works at Capitol and e-mailed this).

Adults 25-54, Morning Drive. It looks like WRAL has been out of it for a while and the same three stations are in a battle.

I think this would be pretty simple to verify. Maybe someone will.

From what I have seen and heard WRAL has not been in the top three or four for at least three years in mornings. WQDR has had some big books but the Showgram looks to be on a rebound. Judging from the Rooster's dismal showing you have to think something will change there in the morning, and what about the River? Both looked very bad in the winter book.

Various Comments....... "Bob is stunting......"

I have never been a fan of Bob or the Showgram. I would never wish illness on anyone.
As you probably know by now, Bob had a Brain Tumor. You can watch various interviews with Bob and his wife at
www.wtvd.com I have never really listened to him, never met him, I did not even know what he looked like until last night. I just knew Bob and The Showgram were childish, infantile, and just plain stupid.

As I was watching the reports, something changed. I realized "Radio Bob" is quite different from how he really is. I knew the Showgram is an act. As I learned from watching him tell his story, I thought he was a very honest, careing, and open person, as his his wife. His sense of humor was great as he described his operation, the way he was laughing about it, one would think he just had a minor operation done.

I am not in the Radio Business, I follow Radio as a hobby. I do know what "stunting" means. Since I am not a Radio Professional, I did not know for sure. I hoped Clear Channel and Bob would not use major surgery as a stunt to perhaps move him the "The Rooster".

I think the main thing I have learned from this is "You Cannot Judge A Book By It's Cover". Thanks Bob for the "Life Lessons". I will now find out more information about a person or situation, before I form an opinion about them.

Continue to get better Bob, you have many fans out there, and I think you have found one more.

Thanks,
Stuart

For those of you wondering about Bob Dumas, according to WTVD Channel 11
in Durham, who did a two-part report on him, and had to chance to watch the
news video at www.abc11tv.com, their morning anchor Barbara Gibbs interviewed
him and according to Bob, one morning a few months ago, he got off the air,
and did not feel well, so doctors checked him out, and discovered a tumor in
his brain, he got help from the Duke University Medical Center, and managed
to dissapate the tumor through a procedure while awake during the surgery
without any complications, once this was completed, doctors speculated it
would be up to eight weeks before he could return to G-105, which should
end speculation about going elsewhere for now, four weeks after this was
done, Bob Dumas was back on the air, but i'm sure this was a "life-changing"
experience for him and his wife and according to the interview, he said this
gave him a new outlook on everything, i'm sure he will have check-up's from
time to time, but i'm glad he survived this, and wish him all the best!
