In its first full month, CBS-FM extrapolates to a tie for #2 25-54 in New York for August. It is tied with WHTZ and slightly behind #1 WBLS. WLTW extrapolated 25-54 gives it #1', just a tengh of a share ahead of Fresh.

The mix of about 60% post-1970 Classic Hits with a dose of 60's oldies made CBS FM a strong 25-54 contender and is about 80% higher than the last months of Jack in the critical 25-54 numbers. They even made it to 9th 25-54 including about 6 or 7 weeks of the old format in the three month rolling average of the trend1

WQCD extraped to a nice #7 showing, too.

Told ya (although your percentages of what they are playing may be slightly off... the 70's are sure getting their fair amount of airplay with the post 70's stuff).

Now, lets have cake.

Lat 7 days, 63% Post-1970 per MediaBase. I said "post-1970" and not "post 70's," by the way.

Sorry David, but you are incorrect. You did say post 70's. Here is the direct quote from your original post.

I did an era map on CBS FM for the last 7 days, and about 63% of the songs were post-60's. About 17% were post-70's. that means about 37% 60's, and half that from the 80's. 31% was 1965 to 1969, meaning that only a few percent were pre-'65.

Please look at the first post in THIS thread. I corrected that earlier error by specifying "post 1979" in the message about today's trend. The station has consistently been about two-thirds 70's songs, about 20% 60s and the rest 80's since it stabilized in its first few weeks on the air. It's a nice adaptation of classic hits, with a big enough touch of the nostalgic 60's... but using 60's tunes I think all would agree are familiar to the under-55 demos because they have been so well exposed across the media.

If this is a sign of how Dan Mason is going to fix some of the more marginal CS radio properties, I think he will be successful and I congratulate him for this first big win in NY. The August numbers were better than anything CBS-FM had obtaiined in recent years in the sales demos! This is a rather unique case of a brand new station with a long heritage!

Wow! CBS-FM made it back to the top of the list with a 3 share. The station is better with many of these songs from the 60's, 70's and 80's with a few 50's and early 60's songs mixed in, but they're doing okay with a slew of 50's music.

I'm not talking about WBPM and WKNY (except the Saturday afternoon oldies show), I'm talking about CBS-FM here, as I said, they did really well. Kudos to Dan Mason for this great success for bringing this station back to where it used to be.

I remember 2 years ago when "Jack" came along, the ratings went to an all-time low, but when they flipped back two years later, the station is doing a lot better.

Congratulations to CBS-FM and Dan Mason of CBS Radio for doing a magnificent job.

OK, I'm a little behind (don't live in NYC now) but this is AWESOME that WCBS-FM is back!

I'm so proud of New York for rejecting that JACK flip. Good for you guys!

Bring on the Christmas countdown!

Pardon my asking, but why is Dan Mason getting so much credit for this? It's not like he's the PD or the GM of the New York cluster.

It was his decision to switch the station back to classic hits/oldies.

Just like he made the decision to drop FREE-FM from 92.3 and make it K-Rock again. Anyways great job CBS-FM. Its nice to see WLTW down in ratings thanks to CBS-FM and Fresh.

Though it is still too early to suggest future success, the extraps were a welcome sign for CBS-FM.

And, I'm not surprised.

I guess PD Brian Thomas would be the next Joe McCoy. I remember Joe McCoy when he was PD of CBS-FM a long time ago. I missed him so much, but I hope he should bring it back on Sunday "New York Radio Greats" soon.

Only if we're having a Brian Thomas conversation in 30 years.
