So, did anyone in radio see this coming?
Scott and Todd had a family freidnly, fun radio show and stayed steady for years at #11. Somewhere after 2010, the show got meaner, unfunny, and boringly predictable. Even I thought about giving up the ghost sometime after Nolan left and was literally shamed/chased off the station by Todd.
So, when Scott made his big announcement, not only was I not shocked, but I was kind of glad. loyalty was the only thing keeping me listening at that point, as it was not the same fun show I had grown up with.
I was not excited for the todd show. I had an idea of what to expect..as Todd hosted shows generally moved faster and had a lighter attitude...but I Guess then he was still following scott's basic formula. When he went on his own, and tried to be a 'serious local guy'.....it got worse. the whole tone of the show changed.....from having these not ready for prime time 20 somethings on a NY radio station, to having forced fake phony laughter every time a funny was made, to annoying personalities like their joke of a street reporter meatballs, where every report wound up in a fight or almost being arrested.....I honestly would have given the Todd Show up in Week three. As it was, by Week three, I had reduced myself from a P1 to a P5 listener...and a week or two later dropped PLJ for good.
but I don't think Cumulus either cared, or thought for a minute that getting rid of scott would drop them so quickly from a steady 11 to#21 almost over night. In three months no one was listening to PLJ anymore. the only good guy they have left is Race. Todd's reputation is tarnished forever now through rumor. before, it was only tarnished through industry knowledge, now public rumor. I can't help but wonder if he'll give up the radio ghost forever if he finally leaves this year. I hear Walmarts hiring.
Scott on the other hand....it didn't take long tot realize that the thing I loved most a bout the big show was everything scott brought to the table. I was there for year one with PLJ, and now show one on CBS. havn't gone back to PLJ since.
sometimes bad things happen for a good reason.
