Scott Annez...What He Said!

Normally I don't listen to the Magic games but for some reason I had it on Saturday when they were playing in Charlotte, I think. It was during the post game show and I couldn't believe what came out of that guy's mouth! I almost fell off my chair. He went into a break and announced the next feature as he went into a break...and it came out of his mouth! They went to break and when they came back to him, he said it again. The first time, I was shocked and thought, "well, it probably just slipped out!". When he said it again after the break, there was no doubt in my mind he said it deliberately!

There was a time when people on the air watched what they said. People on the air were very deliberate with the exact words they chose because they took pride in their jobs and were very cognizant of the media in which they worked. As an illustration, if you were talking about your car, you would call it a car and not your sled. Why, because it really was a car and it had wheels. In radio, when radio actually was worth listening too, a get-together of news makers who were specifically in front of the microphones to answer questions from the radio reporters, be it news or sports, were refered to being in a "NEWS CONFERENCE". That's exactly what Scott said...the coach was coming back for the post game NEWS CONFERENCE. What's the big deal? Radio is radio...not the print media. I guess the highly educated and of course those highly experienced college broadcasting professors who worked at so many big market stations never, ever heard of that. To them, everything is a "press conference". If you're on the radio, its a "NEWS CONFERENCE".

You bet its a big deal! At least for those of us who remember what radio was instead of the cheap substitute it is now. The "press" is the written word derived from the printing press. The reason we called it a news conference was because we weren't working for a printer. Radio was our profession and we did it well.

Thank you Scott for using the CORRECT TERMINOLOGY!!!

Although I've had some issues with him in the past for his nastiness to some callers years ago, that's past. He did well in my book, very well for correctly handling the "NEWS CONFERENCE" matter instead of doing it the way of those highly skilled "broadcasters" of recent vintage!

Thanks Scott!!!

Got a better one than that off TV this week, a report stated "In fact, the President may have been watching election results ...". When a so called journalist uses the word "fact" you'd expect a plain and simple truth vs. speculation. But, all media has given into extremism so it's not surprising DBO "upsales" anytime they can get a quote from "anyone". Just like having Live, Color Super Doppler Weather Radar on radio when the forecast is for 0% precipitation... if it sounds too cool to believe, it probably is.
