Normally I don't listen to the Magic games but for some reason I had it on Saturday when they were playing in Charlotte, I think. It was during the post game show and I couldn't believe what came out of that guy's mouth! I almost fell off my chair. He went into a break and announced the next feature as he went into a break...and it came out of his mouth! They went to break and when they came back to him, he said it again. The first time, I was shocked and thought, "well, it probably just slipped out!". When he said it again after the break, there was no doubt in my mind he said it deliberately!
There was a time when people on the air watched what they said. People on the air were very deliberate with the exact words they chose because they took pride in their jobs and were very cognizant of the media in which they worked. As an illustration, if you were talking about your car, you would call it a car and not your sled. Why, because it really was a car and it had wheels. In radio, when radio actually was worth listening too, a get-together of news makers who were specifically in front of the microphones to answer questions from the radio reporters, be it news or sports, were refered to being in a "NEWS CONFERENCE". That's exactly what Scott said...the coach was coming back for the post game NEWS CONFERENCE. What's the big deal? Radio is radio...not the print media. I guess the highly educated and of course those highly experienced college broadcasting professors who worked at so many big market stations never, ever heard of that. To them, everything is a "press conference". If you're on the radio, its a "NEWS CONFERENCE".
