Scott Ferrall's Future

With the advent of Chris "Mad Dog" Russo into Sirius XM, I ponder what the future holds for Scott Ferrall. Everybody knows Ferrall is "Mad Dog Lite" and it makes no sense keeping an imitator around when you've got the real thing.

Scott will do just fine. He's not on a sports channel, but on Sterns channel and fills a niche for Stern fans. Mad dog will have little impact on his show. In fact I'd say he knows more about sports than Mad dog. Folks keep talking about Mad Dogs Sirius program but Mad Dog has never proven himself by himself so it will be interesting to see how he does. Ferrall has proven himself to be a good show. I don't like sports and can listen to him. Mad Dog is less palatable for me. Anyway, it's variety. There are plenty of sports channels and programs on Sirius. Now you'll have even more choice.

Other way around.

And Ferrall is signed to the Howard Stern channels so it has nothing to do with talent on the sports channels.

Have you ever heard Scott Ferrall? He sounds NOTHING like Chris Russo. Outside of the fact that both are high energy. They are absolutely NOTHING a like.

And that's exactly where I stake my claim. I remember when Ferrall was on WNEW in morning drive (never heard his WFAN stint) with that "shake it uuuuuup" schtick. I swear, take a sample of Ferrall's spiel, and speed it up 250% and it'll sound like Mad Dog.

Love both guys and I'm wondering if they will have 1 channel(123) that will be dedicated to Satellite-only talent like Russo and Stern are with no terrestrial stations.

They will probably keep the ESPN and Fox channels for the less sophisticated listeners and should be a channel of "major" talent like Russo, a Bruno, Ferrall and several other top notch national guys with followings. XM "sports nation" was okay when they had Bruno, Kornheiser and Patrick, but those were just regular shows picked up by XM. Plus, they had low-paid small-market guys like TJ Reeves who couldn't even get ratings on local radio.

Any hunches on whether they need to have a "super talent channel" that can sell subscriptions or just fill around Russo with lower paid shows with marginally talented people?

another brilliant post, radiohater. (dripping with sarcasm)

bordeaux? or is it 2 buck chuck?

My questions are all legit, so how is it you bash them with your idiotic response?

Maybe you should contribute some info, a question or opinion if you know so much about radio.

Ferrell is a great voice for Akron, Pittsburgh, Tampa, etc...

He bombed as the evening guy on WFAN for a reason.

The guys at Sirius know Mad Dogs success in NYC...

The question will be...would Mad Dog's schtick work in the Omaha's. Akrons, Pittsburghs???

I think they are both grating to no end....but evidently Karmazin feels there are enough listeners in NYC, Philly, Hartford, Providence, and New Haven who know him and would listen.

I remember listening to Ferrall's syndicated show in the early nineties so if anyone is a copy its this Mad Dog.
Mad Dog is clearly a regional thing, he may sell some subs in the northeast but out here in flyover he's just another unknown.
